Observe the decrepit, out of shape older guy jacking up his car for "just a moment" to check on the oil pan install.
Eh, won't need a jackstand for that, just be under there a moment...:

(Ed proceeds to slide under the car and takes note that the pan bolts need snugged up. He then goes to check on the shifter and the clutch adjustments...and the car proceeds to start sliding off the jack as the passenger front wheel begins to slide across the floor sideways!

Ed makes a hasty exit outta there, managing to bang his head on every available hard part on the way out...
:BangHead::mad::mob::up: .
Fortunately, the car doesn't come all the way off the jack.
Even more fortunately, Ed breaks nothing other than his ego...).

Round 2:

Hello, jack stand under frame. :)
You'd think a fella would learn after a few decades, eh?:screwy:

As you laugh mercilessly at my expense, I hope you've enjoyed your moment of zen. :)

Im not getting this at all..... Thats your car, you got under the car with no jack stands and I'm betting a HF floor jack?????
I took many many chances over the last 50 years, some as part of the job, some mistakes and I cheated death and serious injury more times than I care to recall but I know my chance book is about spent, so I lost my balls and im way more careful, certainly dont want to die from a car on top of me.
I genuinely like you and I know you've been to hell and back, a word from a concerned person is don't push your luck.
BTW call me anything you'd like but im doing anything but laughing.
Please be more careful, folks here care.

Glad you are still here with us!!
It always amazes me how far up you can get the front wheel and still have the rear one on the ground.
Lotta flex in these old girls...
Can't do that with our '12 Charger. Rear wheel is in the air almost immediately behind the front when
you jack it up.

Dang, man, it's just meant as it's presented - "lookit, there goes Ed again. Har de har!"
You know not only that I've been dead a few times, but I've also had vehicles fall on me before, so...
it just strikes me funny I keep shadetreeing without even thinking about it.
Ok, if we gotta be all serious...
Think of it this way....it's a PSA for everyone else!
There we go.
Thanks, buddy. Sentiments appreciated, but it's just me.
I wasn't in any real peril - much - I think.

Hydraulics, loader or jack, should never be trusted. They will never fail, until they do.

Oh, almost forgot...
The good news was the clutch - first time I'd checked the work of the fella who did the
18 spline swap out for me. I was most concerned about the gap between throwout and
clutch fingers (I have a conventional 3-finger in there now).
Thankfully, a visible/measurable gap does exist - no riding of the throwout is going on.
I coulda fine adjusted the pedal take up a little, but left it be out of prudence.
It works, Ed. Leave it be...

The new oil pan was a different story. The cork (ugh, I knew better) gasket was indeed leaking
some and every dang pan bolt needed snugging up - which, of course, happens with cork gaskets.
Leaking was occurring at the very rear of the pan, spooking me into worry about the rear main
seal.
Fortunately, despite a trace of moisture inside the inspection cover (which wound up being
the "mechanic" being a tad overzealous in lubing the clutch fork pivot), all the critical parts of
the clutch/flywheel were quite dry (still wish he'd had the flywheel turned; she chatters pretty
good at take-off sometimes).

Finally, my "customized" oil dipstick checked out as dead perfect where I had previously marked
it when the 4 quart pan was on - proving once and for all that when I was told the 6-quart "hemi"
oil pan was the same depth, it is EXACTLY the same depth.

It's all good. We're back to just trying to keep Mopar "horsepower sweat" to a minimum under there.
Nothing new under the sun. :)

Ed!

I never jack any car from the side anymore. It's easier to jack the front, place jack stands, let the weight down on them and still leave a little weight on the jack if it's not going to be in the way. Either way I'll still give the car a good shake and push down on both sides to make sure it's seated on the stands good.

If your wife knew about this your ears would be black and blue! Don't do it again!

Those blasted BFG’s!!! Obviously bad tread compound lol.

Ed, please be more careful and less complacent! Always always always use the jack stands if you are going under there. I put em there for everything because sometimes I end up taking a nap under it lol.

lucky should be your new nick name
(like a 3 legged dog)

stay safe, make good decisions

Those rascals are some hard compound rubber, always have been.
Of course, these are pushing a decade old, too. About time to replace them, even with full tread.

Good advice, my friend - and yeah, given my propensity to doze off at the drop of a hat, I can see that happening. :)

Kinda resemble one, too. :)
Yes sir, I promise. No more trusting jacks alone!

I'd never laugh at you for that. Been there too many times myself, though I have never had one come down (or start to) while I was under it. Glad you are OK.

Now THAT I can laugh at as I envision it. I'd bet that was probably the fastest you moved in years and most likely faster than you thought you ever could.
