Your holiday "Ed did it again - almost" moment of zen...

if I can't get my hands on jack stands
I will shove the tire and rim I just took off under the car or
find wood ,bricks ,cinderblocks ,or anything else I can get my hands on that will
keep the car from hitting the ground if the jack fails
and that even goes for nonhydraulic jacks...
heard of too many horror stories over the years
and I don't want to become one myself..

I'd never laugh at you for that. Been there too many times myself, though I have never had one come down (or start to) while I was under it. Glad you are OK.

Now THAT I can laugh at as I envision it. I'd bet that was probably the fastest you moved in years and most likely faster than you thought you ever could.
If it's possible to generate a vapor trail while on ones' back, I did then. :)

I'm a pretty good jack stand for a late-model Ram, it turns out.
Ask me how I know. :)

Honestly, when I take a wheel off a vehicle is when I usually reach for jack stands. No idea why that is...
