An interesting article about Mopars...

Raining in Maryland also. Thanks for posting that.

Interesting article that reads with a lot of fact far as I've read about previously with tidbits I wasn't aware of. Of course, we have been into the deeebates about the 1st muscle car and as much as I like the GTO, owning some five in the family, never agreed matter of factly that the '64 was thee 1st muscle car. Then it depends on how people want to define a muscle car. During the era, we never called them that and don't think I heard the handle until many years later. Article points out what might be called the earliest with the mid-50's Mopars. Part of the definition I've heard was stuff a huge motor in a smaller car that GTO took hold of sure; but the '63 Plymouths/Dodges came out with 426's and they were smaller cars. They didn't come out with a fancy name or badge then. I had read that around 1962 Mopar had got concerned about a downsized Chevy...the Nova coming out and the designs of the Plymouths/Dodges were reconfigured to downsize them. We all know the history of these Mopars in the drag circuit that were 2nd to none. And I think about the other cars pre-GTO that were insanely powerful like the Chrysler 300 and Pontiac Super Duty albeit full size cars. Then ahh...the debates about what's a muscle and a pony car...lol I'll stop here.

Reading the argumentative comments is always more entertaining than reading the actual article...

That is the 2nd time in 2 weeks I have heard the GTO mentioned as the first "muscle car" that means it must be true! Haha

Jim Wangers, considered the godfather of the GTO, disagrees with both assessments. He considers the 260-hp 1956 Dodge D-500 and the even-hotter 1957 Plymouth Fury V-800 to be the first true muscle cars
from the article.

btw,the whole muscle cars term..its funny..
everyone of diff ages has a different meaning for it carwise,
and the term didnt even come heavily out till the 80-s really.
bitd,it was pony cars,super cars,and donut chasers.....erm cough,sorry oshifer.
