Test it before pulling apart for clues and to learn the drill
even 3 planetaries are usually strong enough
I've had thrust washers go south
especially in an overdrive unit
I used the straight cut diesel gears when rebuilding mine (actually the dealer rebuilt it to my specs under warranty)
The It went to TRANSGO and the OD reprogramming kit appeared about a month and lots of trans R&R later
250 thou miles later and no problems but I have had "back to low" but no "back to second"
New seperator plate from Transgo will fix that "real soon now" and I'm going to put a check ball back into the valve body for the "too harsh shifts into gear" without it
