You are correct sir!

You are thinking correctly. Black is feed from Alternator and Red to Battery. As I recall the cluster is marked. I don't remember having any hook up confusion issues.

do you not have a service manual? if not get one it will save you a lot of time

Yes and I have a couple wiring diagrams too. I just finished tracing one last night and color coding it. Honestly, that open my eyes more than just trying to trace a wire or two.

Now I have to figure where those disconnected gray wires go!!

But for sanity sake, it seems prudent to ask a question about something you are not 100% sure of.

On my '70 Charger 500, the gray wire with the flat blade connector went to the clock. There may have been another gray wire on a bulb socket, but I can't remember where it went. Maybe left turn indicator?

There were four brown wires on the right hand side of my cluster, hooked to terminals on my 3 speed wiper switch and my washer button. I marked them with Sharpie tic marks (I, II, III, IIII) before removal so I'd put them back on the right spades when I put my cluster back in.

cluster gets labeled the RED stud for, obviouslly, the red wire. The other one wikll be of course the black one

Gray ( aside the one with the terminal for the clock ) should be oil... but on a socket ? mmmm

I have an oil gauge, not a light. That's why. My turn indicator may not be gray, it may be something else. And, I may be blocking - that whole operation was such a pain in the a$$, I just don't want to remember it!

I’m getting there. I have just a couple more wires. I had considered purchasing a complete new wiring harness or harnesses. I should have just done that.
