Are there any high quality thermostats?

Doing a coolant flush on the Hemi. Pulled out a 160 stat. My guess is it is 15 years old. It has USA stamped on it. I am thinking about putting it right back in.

I always used Stant Stats with no issues. I have read that they are now Motorad, and junk.

I've used the Mr Gasket ones that are made of brass like the Robert Shaw ones and no problems. There's also Flow Kooler that has brass ones like the Robert Shaw ones. Can't guarantee where they're made.

I decided on the EMP Stewart 180°.

If it works good, use it is my motto! Don't know about the Motorad thing, but Stants are good!

Milodon and EMP are the same unit, made in USA by RobertShaw. Best you can buy.

I have a stewart in mine.

And have ZERO complaints.
Its not cheap though.
But imo....worth every dime

They look like a good piece but when I was in the trade I saw more of them fail than any other design of thermostat....
I test mine on the stove with a pan of water and a thermometer.

The stat shown in post #6.......is sold by Milodon, Shaw, Mr. Gasket & probably others....& made in the same Chinese factory.
[1] The three leg top piece is s/steel. The earlier ones that were made in the US had this section made out of brass.
[2] The drilled hole in the side are only needed if the w/pump bypass is blocked off. The original idea for these drilled stats comes from Stewart water pumps because their race pumps eliminated the bypass & the these holes were needed to bypass pressure build up, should the stat jam shut.
Unless you have blocked the bypass in your engine, drilling the holes is a backwards move because the engine takes longer to warm up & your engine will wear quicker.
[3] The Chinese stats often jam first time used because the internal rubber seal is tight. Dribble some auto trans fluid into the stat for lubrication & then test that it opens in hot water. I have found that after doing this they work reliably.
[4] Temp regulation is not great. They seem to open correctly, but a 160 once opened may not fully close until it gets down to 140ish.
