1966 Plymouth Satellite HP2

I wonder when the last time the valve lash was checked was?

The bolt and threaded port on the bottom of the manifold is where one of the small choke tubes bolts in with a bushing. Provides hot air to the choke housing to actuate the thermostatic coil. Another tube connects by slip fitting to a nipple on the top of the manifold to pull air from a nipple on the underside of the air cleaner. The tube is continuous through the manifold so no exhaust gas is introduced. I suspect the Edelbrock have an electric choke. Yes, the manifold heat tubes are a pain. Many remove them and install block off plates and caps. Mine are still functional but they are a pain - I said that already didn’t I. They actually have limited function if there isn’t an operating heat riser in the manifold. Hot exhaust is routed through the manifold when the heat riser is closed but when it’s open (or missing) limited exhaust is sent that way.

That is an interesting carb linkage system. I would suggest getting the stock carbs restored and going back to them but might depend on how well it runs with the Edelbrocks.

Edit - glossed over the rear springs too quickly - no, not stock.

I always thought HP2 stood for Hemi Power, Second (2) generation. Maybe someone knows the definitive answer.

My upper hose also is over the top of the fuel line but depends on what upper hose is used. The original upper hose seems to be out of production.

I suspect this is exactly the reason Plymouth changed it; nobody could figure out what it meant. 426 Hemi is self-explanitory.

Upper hose and thermostat hsg is 67 and up.

The tstat hsg angles forward and the upper hose for a 66 goes in front of the fuel lines
And not over the heater hoses.

Think the whole engine is a 68? Intake manifold is a 68 not a 66 and Wayne posted the block as a 68.

I can find them both ways, so hopefully someone has an unrestored, never tinkered, original engine car to confirm. I've found a bunch with about a 50/50 split of how it's run. This one is same as mine, straight thermo housing as well.

Also, is there anyone with an early production car that has never had the heater hose bracket hole "molested". Mine is dimpled but has never been screwed! Were they saving parts in '65..

Did you get the stock air cleaner base with it?

My 2 cents - if the inner fender wasn’t drilled for a heater hose bracket that may be a trait of early cars and you may not want to install one now.

in the interior pictures I don’t see the emergency brake warning light under dash. I wonder if that was some sort of option or later change.

I think that may be a later thermostat housing in that example. But that is a 66 water pump and timing chain cover by virtue of the temp sending unit.

Well, as many owners as there are who have adopted Edelbrocks to their cars, you should be able to find one sometime if you ever decide to go back to the Carters.

In case you didn’t see my post several months ago on fuel filters, I would not use the repro plastic ones and would use the metal ones instead. Some have used a plastic current Fram replacement. Between the rupturing fuel filter and several carb flooding events it’s a wonder my car hasn’t burned up.

My Satellite SBD 3/8 66 St Louis plant, top fender isn't drilled. Think I've got picture from original owner no heater hose bracket. Here is a picture of a 66 intake, no pentastar.

9906 miles.. never made it in for service! LOL

Riveted right onto the glove box door.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 005.jpg

Console is in amazing shape.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 006.jpg

Mint arm rests and door cards.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 007.jpg

Glass sits perfect.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 009.jpg

Windshield has been replaced, all other glass is original.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 010.jpg

Rear seat emblem.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 015.jpg

Turn signal "spears".
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 019.jpg

All door glass is date coded 105 = October 1965
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 020.jpg

Gotta be the wildest carb linkage set up I've ever seen, but it works so smooth.

It's in the details. No rubber bumper so the licence plate doesn't rattle.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 024.jpg

Fixed that right up...
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 027.jpg

Glad I didn't take it for a test drive!!! How it could get that low is beyond me and someone heard about it! Brakes still work and think I caught it just shy of needing to bleed. I'd almost swear someone drained it to clean it out and then forgot to fill it. Can't see how it could get below the intake hole.... or maybe the sellers Wife! Checked all wheels cylinders and lines, none leaking.

Inner fender has the dimple, but it has never been violated by a heater hose bracket screw. Guess they were saving parts in late '65.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 031.jpg

Added a piece of rubber hose around the fuel line to help on radiator hose wear.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 033.jpg

Don't know why folks can't get these steering coupling clamps to stay in place.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 046.jpg

Trying to polish the chrome dome up and realized it has over spray on it.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 053.jpg

Gave the breather a quick clean and spray with semi gloss.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 054.jpg

Lacquer thinner to get the over spray off and then a good scrubb and polish with MAAS.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 057.jpg

That looks better.

More proof that the engine bay has never been painted. Just wish the card was in the pouch!
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 061.jpg

This was so when you came in for maintenance, the dealer would put your cars information card in the "credit" card machine to imprint it on the work order.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 062.jpg

Coupling going back into place. A little tap, a little squeeze and a bit of 1lb ballpeen.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 064.jpg

Signal/park light lenses are cracked.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 078.jpg

I was handed two with the car. They sell for $100Cdn each.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 079.jpg

Polished up the housing.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 082.jpg

Cracked OE and the new licensed reproduction.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 084.jpg

The next generation won't know OE parts from Reproductions, unfortunately !
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 086.jpg

Both lenses changed out.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 089.jpg

Hood edge trim off for a polish.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 092.jpg

Not too bad, but not perfect either.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 094.jpg

We'll give it a quick buff on the wheels.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 095.jpg

A little less tattered looking and back in place.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 103.jpg

Radiator support black out as done by the factory, so you don't see Silver behind the grill.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 107.jpg

Drivers side OE black out treatment and antifreeze sticker.
1966plysathp2cleanupday2 108.jpg

Love the car! Actually all your cars! Just wondering if it has a vin on the block being a 68. Also,I would have a look at the master cylinder from interior side to make sure there is no leak inside vehicle. Just a thought. Thanks for the great info and pics.

Front pad on the block isn't even stamped.

thinking you need to get that runway paved now so Bella and Hens 2th can play in the yard!
