Howdy, y’all. Would like some help identifying the k-member in my 65 satellite. Below are some pics of what’s currently installed. Does anyone know if this is a ‘65 v-8 k-member? It looks more like a 66 or later.
Thanks.

Follow up question. Since it looks like somebody cut on the passenger side perch, is it useable without repair? Can I still install a bracket and biscuit on that perch?

Is the idler arm K-member attachment a stud or a through bolt with nut (later model). I can't tell from the pics. The mount bracket would be an easy repair though.

That's looks like for 66 on up , 65 had 2 slots on each perch for v'8 s ,Schumacher Creative Services has pics of different years k-members .

It looks like a '66-newer crossmember with the through-bolt mounts. This crossmember mounts the engine about 2" closer to the firewall than the ' 65 crossmember. My guess is that this car was converted from slant six to V-8, with this crossmember sometime in its past. Because of the engine placement, the transmission mount may have to be modified.
It looks like the lower steering tube seal/bushing needs to be replaced.

Thanks. I’m replacing all the front end suspension and steering. That car had a 361 originally. When i bought it, it had a 318 in it. I have a 73-78 model 440 and transmission to go in it.

If that is the 66- unit, it does move the engine/trans back as mentioned. The trans mount will need mods as mentioned plus the trans to tunnel clearance gets tighter. I had to do some thumping in places on my 65 because I'm using a 70 unit, on purpose. You'll need to get your engine mount bracket package according to what k unit you have. You asked about the strut rods in another area. Those don't get affected by engine changes since they don't carry the weight load.
Since you are diving in that far and have great access, it's a great time to get new t-bars. They are 59 years old and like us humans, don't last forever.

Valuable info. Appreciate it. Torsion bars are on my list too. Glad to know folks who have already laid the tracks.

Because of the bolt through idler mount I believe it's a 68- up

How would one repair that perch? It’s not obvious to me. If i had another k member to take measurements on maybe. Any ideas?

That doesn't look like my 65 belvedere K-frame.

My '65 Coronet 273...
