Are You Using Synthetic Oil?

I use nothing but Valvoline VR 1 in all my old engines. Previously I used Castrol GTX, but when they took the zinc out I switched. The last 3 flat tapplet engines I have built were broken in with the Valvoline VR 1 and no dedicated break in oil.
Here here count me in on VR1 also and I to used to use Castrol and switched to VR1 and use a Purulator filter
 
I used 15 - 40 Rotella for years until they cut back on the zinc content also.
Last few years I have switched to the Lucas 10 - 40 hot rod oil.
When i did the cam and lifter swap i used a set of old oem springs and Joe Gibbs break in oil.

I've disassemble a few engines that use synthetic oil, the tolerances, the lubrication passages, the rod caps, main bearings, cam rods are not suitable for other type of oil, simple won't be capable to lubricate as intended, my opinion is no don't use modern oil in old engines, BTW saludos to you and the beautiful La Paz B C.S.
 
I pay some one else to do that as I am damn near 73 years old myself and I ain't layin on the ground no more for routine crap;
Any problem finding a garage/business willing to change your oil? I was on a California road trip a few years ago in my '72 Satellite Sebring Plus and visiting a relative in the "ritzy" town of Mill Valley (where Robin Williams resided) where the local mechanic refused to change my oil/filter (had a "policy" of not touching classic/older vehicles). Fortunately someone else down the street took care of me. That incident still amazes me to this day.

It's not that amazing, start a business and make any policy you want.
Speculation; he did an oil change on some old turd and it started knocking/ cam went flat/ tire went flat/ pick your poison. All of a sudden everything is his " fault" bunch of drama etc.
New Policy; no more oil changes on old stuff.
 
I just use whatever is on sale 10w30 conventional oil in all my classic cars. The seal technology was not what it is today with tighter machined tolerances and newer style o-ring seal gaskets. Synthetic oils will weap in most old school engines.
 
After initial break in on this new 440 (Roller cam), I switched over to Maxima full synthetic 10-40 and its been fine so far! They also say it has 2x the zinc than other brands which is a good sign that oil companies are starting to cater to the flat tappet crowd again.
 
Really. Hmm. So you are hopeful that instead of making quality parts, the industry will develop new processes that will make junk parts work. I’m not optimistic, but maybe the band-aids will work.

I would be interested in both. Rollers that aren't junk while costing 2 arms and legs,, and flat tappets that worked perfectly fine like they used to. I guess I'm greedy that way
