`70 road runner, FC7, 383, 727 It`s waited long enough, finally time to get it done.

Latest sample of C7 In-Violet, going to spray it out as soon as garage warms up.

We have color! It's not much but the underside is primered and oversprayed with In-Violet. It is a bit of a milestone in the restoration for two reasons- first is that I am going to take it off the rotisserie and put it back on jackstands, second is when I do that it will free up a bay in the garage. Having a free bay in the detached garage will allow me to pull my Barracuda in to do some work on it and also give me more room to start working on parts for the road runner. I'll let it dry today and should have it spun and on stands tomorrow.

I haven't used my pressure blaster for a while as I have a bucket blaster I use for small jobs but I knew I would need it soon for some parts. I pulled it out of the corner and saw it needed a new seal and when I went to clean it out found a dead mouse carcass. :( I got the new seal installed and got the rear end housing blasted and in high build primer.

Very nice, that's the stage where it gets very exciting.

Housing painted, waiting on bearings to show up, going to start clean up on the leaf springs.

Since this isn't a "money no object" $100k restoration I deemed the original leaf springs ok to reuse for now, if I find they sag or are too soft once I get the car fully assembled I will either get them re-arched or just buy new ones at that point. I cleaned them up with an abrasive disc and painted them high heat semi gloss black.

Getting there, I have used 3.23 Sure Grip going in and currently cleaning up and blasting backing plates and drums.

My first of what will be a few Day Two mods - longer shackles for a little old school rake. These are homemade ones that measure 5 1/4" long compared to the stock 3 1/2" ones so nothing too drastic. I'll see how it sits when put together and can always adjust if necessary.

Keeping with the "this ain't no $100k + blank check" restoration i dug out my two used 489 case 3.23 sure grips, one bought at a swap meet the other I think from a parts car. One had a 7260 u-joint and the other one which I used had a 7290. Not sure how tight it is but it will do for now, if it doesn't leave two nice black marks when it's up and running I'll upgrade it with a Trutrac which is what I have in my Barracuda.

Been a busy few weeks - we got a permanent foster kid placement the beginning of the month, two kids birthdays, getting the old camper set up at the campground for the next month and course my Carlisle trip but back at it today. The rear end was a nice break from bodywork but I need to get that all done if I want to make my goal of having it in paint before winter. I was able to find some good used corner pieces for the lower windshield area which saved me money over buying a repro panel and time over having to hand fabricate them. Drivers side is fit now on to the passenger side which isn't as bad then I'll start welding them in.

I use these wheels for cleaning up metal with minor surface rust, heavier rust obviously requires bead or sand blasting. Tip for saving money - Lowes sells a single wheel for $8 and change but a double wheel is only $10 and change and if I need to get into a tighter area I can take the double one apart and make it a single. Just more ways to restore a car on a budget for those that think it takes $100k plus, being poor you find cheaper alternative ways to get the same results .
