906 heads on a 413

So you think 4.10 gears would be a bad idea? Not too worried about highway driving at the moment, just looking to blast it from light to light. At some point in the future it will likely get an overdrive put in it.
it's your car do what you think is best. to go fast stop light to light you will need to hook it up else the 410 are a waste.

That’s a good point, I appreciate the input. This stuff is all fairly new to me so I’m always interested in hearing what some more experienced guys have to say.

Hey guys, was putting on the edelbrock intake and of course the holes in the intake weren’t lining up with the head on one side when you have the other side started. Couple questions.

I pulled the valve cover to check the casting number and change the gaskets. Casting number appears to be 2408516-8. Anything anyone can tell me about the heads? I’m assuming they are 413 heads, I’ve also seen stuff saying they may be 361-383 heads?

Also when you have done your intake manifolds before have you used the fibre gaskets with the valley pan? Previous intake was installed with just the valley pan. I’m using a felpro kit, it said to install with gaskets as well but now I’m thinking they may be what’s pushing the manifold out of alignment.

Thanks guys!

I have the 906 heads on a 413, bored .060 over, with an Edelbrock Performer intake, Carter 750cfm, mild purple shaft cam, and 3.23 gears. It runs well with good stop light to stop light power and smoke up the tires all day long, while still having highway drivability. I really want to throw a Thermoquad on it for a test and see how it performs.
a good tuned T-quad will wake that thing right up !
it took me years to figure those things out, but today, that is the carb of my choice !
too bad there isn't a low profile 2x4 intake made that will accept 2 T-quads. as i want to keep my flat hood, a tunnel ram is unfortunately out.
:drinks:

Just use one set under the aluminium intake, to insulate he aluminium from metal contact (electrolosis).

Tried one set. No dice, only way to get the holes lined up is with just the valley pan. Maybe an issue with the manifold, it would be my luck to get something defective.

Might the current heads have been heavily surfaced in a previous rebuild? If so, that would certainly throw off bolt alignment. Machine shop would likely be the only way to tell...

They very well could have been. Bought some gasket material that’s thinner than the felpro gaskets I was using. A guy in the neighbourhood mentioned he’s had a similar issue using felpro gaskets on some of his 440 builds. Manifold bolted on well with just the valley pan so hopefully this solves it.
