I've wondered about the trend to suggest those adjustable pinion snubbers.
I'm not sure but I thought I remember they were advised to be about an inch from the floor. What good is that when driving on the street? You'd hammer away at the rubber bushing on every drive.
Was this a setting only for when drag racing?

Yes. If I remember correctly, they had a pin you could pull out and lower the pinion snubber to the bottom for street use.
 
I recently put ins 3.55 sure grip in my 69 Runner, mildly built 383 4 speed. It has new stock springs and sits just right with the 275/60's on the back. I immediately noticed it had developed wheel hop, I could even feel a shudder when I hit second gear. I ordered an adjustable snubber and jacked up my car to install it. That's when I discovered it wouldn't fit between the floor and the rear end. I would have to raise the car at least an inch, just to get it in, and another inch for any clearance which would require, having the springs re-arched or new SS springs, which would probably correct the problem any way. I was telling a buddy about my problems, and he said he had an old pair of traction bars and I could have them. I bolted them on and PRESTO, the wheel hop was GONE!!!! Whatever WORKS for YOU!
