My GY8 '71 Road Runner

I have no idea what these two are for:

My original had strips under the AC dryer, so I used scraps and added them:

I used 3m Industrial Spray Adhesive for all of the foam. I used 3M Weatherstripping Yellow Adhesive for the large gasket (#12). I needed up replacing both the heater core and AC dryer with new repops. Both needed work to fit correctly.

After thinking a bit more on these two pieces, I’m thinking they might go under the AC dryer where the screws attach it to the box.

Maybe in the circled areas??

I forgot to add, I not only had to trim down both sides of the AC dryer flange but also the top of it. It was sticking out from the box which would prevent the sides coming together flush:

I’m still plugging along. Last weekend I reinstalled the vacuum lines on the heater box. I figured I’d post their locations in case someone, like me, takes a bunch of pics before removing them only to realize after that the hoses were too dirty to see the colors printed on them. After searching for hours through numerous forums, I was able to figure it out. This weekend, I stripped my seat frames, blasted them and then sprayed them with epoxy.

Red, white and yellow:

And rust:

More to follow…

I’m thinking the duct tape wasn’t the best fix. The tape was “holding” broken springs together in two different spots. I welded the broken pieces back together:

I’m guessing the broken spring went here:

After soaking in Evaporust and ultrasonic cleaner:

I added an indoor/outdoor carpet to my inflatable spray booth to help hold down overspray. It also adds a nice touch of ambiance. Fingers crossed my wife doesn’t notice there’s something missing from the screened-porch :) Thanks for looking!

I’ve been cleaning up more interior parts. I soaked the smaller parts to the gas/brake linkages in evaporust (that fit into 5 gallon bucket) and the larger pieces in my DIY evaporust. I had to hit a few spots of paint with the wire wheel. They’ll be sprayed with epoxy soon. While I was blasting the seat frames, I cleaned my seatbelts with the sonic cleaner and Zep carpet/upholstery cleaner with a good sprint of Dawn dish soap. I had. Few gallons of the Zep left over so I figured I give it a try. I ran the belts through 6 - 30 minute cycles at 70 degrees Celsius. I changed the solution out, each time after 2 cycles. The amount of filth that came off the belts was pretty horrific.

This weekend I decided to attempt the installation of my headliner. I think it went well for my first time. I also cleaned the second batch of seatbelts. This time I used Simple Green carpet cleaner. I didn’t notice any difference with this and Zep. I forgot to mention that I did dilute both cleaners with about 50% water.

I also had to re-make one of the backing panels to the bench seat. I found some material online that is pretty close. Unfortunately I could only order a minimum of 4 sheets so, I now have 3 extra 4X4 sheet of this stuff.

Using the 1 original I have as a template. I need a mirror image of it:

I’m letting the headliner sit until next weekend so it will have time to relax and release some of the wrinkles. I’m hoping anyway.

I did run into a small issue; some of the tacking teeth are missing on the inside of my quarter. I never noticed it until now, when I need them. I’m going to use a bunch of glue and a few truss head screws. I hope this will be enough to hold this part of the headliner.

Missing teeth:

On a side note; does anyone know if this area of the inside of the quarter panel gets glued for the headliner?

Thanks for looking!

Chad, I did use glue in that are when I did mine. That way you'll be able to install the sail panels without having to worry about tucking the headliner.

Thanks John! I was looking through your thread for reference when I was working on mine.

I have the Legendary sail panels and don’t have the originals for reference. The Legendary panels came with 2 packs of Velcro strips. Do I use these instead of the clips or do I use the clips in the small holes (red arrows) or use both the clips and the Velcro? And, I’m thinking the extra fabric gets folded over and glued to the back of the panel?

I had to check my own thread to see what photos I had on there.
I added extra Velcro to the sail panel - I didn't use the clips and I didn't take any pics of it.

Since my work is textile related, we have plenty of adhesive Velcro in stock.
I added glue to the adhesive as adhesive will go dry after some time.

You can get good Velcro at any craft store - bonus if they have some adhesive backed stuff.

Thank you! I have some "Industrial Strength" Velcro left over from another product.

I spoke with Legendary Interiors. The top edge is glues to the back, the side edges wrap under the moldings and the overhang fabric at the package tray fills the gap between the sail panel and the package tray cover. The squares with the circles can either be used for the factory fasteners or the Velcro provided.

I glued the top edge down, to the backside:

I then stripped and cleaned up the interior trim moldings for paint. I was missing one of the moldings that go above the side widow opening. I had to source a set from EBay. I first used MaxStrip which, didn’t work all that well. I brushed it on thick and left it covered in plastic overnight. It removed about 30% of the original paint. I then used CitriStrip. This worked MUCH better. The paint started bubbling off within an hour. I let it sit overnight covered in plastic. The next day, I could wipe the paint off with my finger. Some of the moldings had rust so I soaked them in my DIY evaporust for a few days. I then media blasted the moldings with low pressure and glass bead. After popping out a few dents, I then sprayed a few coats of reduced epoxy primer and then two coats of 8774paint1 Mopar Satin Black Suede paint.
