Most of us don't have a #1 resto project so it's hard to see spending $1400 for a radiator. I have a BeCool radiator, and at $600 I thought it was a lot, but worth in the end.
I'll be truthful I have no idea when Mopar added the coolers in the PS circuit. I just know my 71 Cuda with 3.90 gears came with it. Could be they had some kind of failure in the PS circuit and the cooler would eliminate it. Fluid getting too hot and maybe have seal problems from the hotter than...
You don't have a PS cooler because it came from the factory with 3.23's. My 68 Road Runner had 323's and no PS cooler. Only if you ordered the car with 3.91's did it come with PS cooler.
Mopar only added the PS cooler to cars with 3.90 and higher rear end gears. I have a 71 Cuda, originally 383, 4 speed with 3.90's and it has a PS cooler.
You probably don't know how it was converted to dot 5 and if wheel cylinders were replaced to use dot 5. I have a 05 ram PU and had a front caliper freeze up, and destroy the rotor, so I replaced both fronts rotors, calipers and pads. I noticed new calipers uses some sort of plastic piston...
On my gen2 hemi I fill the filter halfway to penetrate the filter media. The only 2 filters are the slant six and the B engine filter I can't fill up before installing and I no longer own the six.
Have you looked into the radiator to see if the tubes are clear? Calcium builds up in the tubes when using tap water which is why we should use distilled water. If tubes are clogged take it to a radiator shop to have it cleaned out or recored if necessary. You could try OTC radiator cleaner, but...
Why not visually check the spark, pull a wire off, plug a plug in the wire and see what it looks like with the engine running. The resistance readings could be the result of a questionable accuracy of your meter.
And of course they never thought these cars would be around 50 years later. There only $3000 so they'll buy another one in 4-5 years. And then no more muscle cars. We have to be thankful that repro parts are being made now for all the rusted out body parts.
I bought the repro 340 manifolds a few years ago and did use the right angle oil filter adapter. I have a 21/2" exhaust and use the smaller Wix filter. Although my car is a 74 Duster, so less room than a B body car.
