just a little off the back and sides please

Pretty damn cool. I have a 68 Coronet trunk lid that I feel like is fixable (skin is good except for bottom lip but frame needs bit of work). Is it as simple as drilling the spots out and then gently prying the lip all the way around? I'd like to take a crack at fixing it down the road, have...

Where's the lead (on a 68 coronet HT)

Hey folks, quick question to make sure my research is correct. Getting ready to take car down to metal using 3M Clean & Strip XT discs. I want to make sure I understand all the places to avoid and hand sand due to lead filler. - roof to quarter at sail panel (this ones easy to find with rear...

just a little off the back and sides please

All in all pretty happy with how it fits up. With the gaps parallel on the trunk lid, the rear edge of trunk lid on the drivers side is about 1/16" further back than the passenger side, but for a car that's been smacked in the *** at least once and is just supposed to be a driver I think it...

just a little off the back and sides please

Thanks, I was thinking that might be a good first place to tack, just to free my long clamps up for other spots. Definitely can't double check too many times. Seems like the holes for the quarter extension mounting screws might have been used at the factory for alignment with the cutouts in...

just a little off the back and sides please

Sorry to jump back on your thread eldubb, but looking to see if you (or anyone else) has any advice before I start tacking the tail back on (had to put it aside for a few months, finally back on it). I test fit the extensions, they seem to line up well with the body line across the tail panel...

WTB Looking for driver door molding for 68 coronet

Ha, I really should have searched first huh. Those look very nice, really should go on a restoration. I was hoping to find just the driver, maybe a little dinged up to match my passenger side lol.

just a little off the back and sides please

Probably muscle memory at this point. :) My dad was an iron worker, I can remember him putting potatoes on his eye lids to help with welder flash.

just a little off the back and sides please

I'll toss one thing in here that helped me. When you go to weld the drops to the bottom of the quarter panel, there is NOT a lot of room to maneuver there since you're welding from the drop side. I'm still sore from crawling around under there welding and dressing 'em up afterwards. I would...

    68 Coronet trunk pan holes

Thanks everyone, I kept my nasty old chunks of floor pan just for this reason. Is the hole circled in red for the fuel sending wire? I cut out the old pan just forward of this hole, so all the vent holes are intact in the original portion of the trunk floor.

    68 Coronet trunk pan holes

Hey folks, just replaced trunk pans in my 68, and getting ready to paint soon. My two piece trunk floor doesn't have any of the holes pre-drilled. Are there any of these that really need to be there? I don't plan on drilling out any that aren't necessary. The car had no gas tank when I...

68 coronet HT rocker / quarter advice: How to tackle rust

What I exposed of the rocker I at least can't poke holes in, but the test will be is there something to spot weld the quarter to once I get that lead out of there. That and thick enough quarter panel to butt weld the rest to. I've not seen a patch panel for the front lower portion of a...

68 coronet HT rocker / quarter advice: How to tackle rust

Yep that's what I'm afraid of, how much of that quarter and the rocker behind it is toast. Plan to cut a chunk out of quarter and see what's happening back there. Will post a pic, I know how you guys love rust pictures. Like watching that pimple popper show. Disgusting but you can't not watch...

68 coronet HT rocker / quarter advice: How to tackle rust

Actually once I took an ice pick to it, the area just forward of the red circle must be lead as its soft. Looking at pictures of full quarter from AMD looks like the lower front corner of the quarter overlapped the rocker right here. Guess I'm going to need to clean the lead out out and cut...

68 coronet HT rocker / quarter advice: How to tackle rust

I've been doing some searching on FBBO and googling but still not quite sure how the panels are assembled in this area. The rocker panels on the car are solid as well as the quarters, but I have this one area just below/behind the bottom rear corner of the driver door jamb. I wore a mask just...
