The only "right/wrong" would possibly be making sure to have the heater control valve on the FEED hose, so hot coolant isn't being pumped into the heater core and becoming stagnant. If the HCV is on the return hose, the hot coolant from the engine will get pumped into the heater core and just...
I need to dig into these - on the way to work this morning (cool, foggy) I realized my controls don't do much of anything at all. Air comes out the face vents...and that's about it. I was trying to move it to defrost and the slider/button/"tooth" thing feels like it's not really connected to...
I'm going to pressure test it with air, and a gauge. Pressurize to 10psi or so, leave it sit overnight, and see where the gauge is in the morning. My dilemma was only figuring out how to seal up / attach a schraeder valve, and a gauge port...didn't know if anyone here had any tips or ideas.
Yeah, I'm really hoping to avoid pulling stuff out just yet....I know, it's a band-aid, but I'll save the "yank the dash" adventure for when I get the urge to get the factory a/c working again!
I was thinking bike pump (have plenty) and a valve. I have a couple old bike tubes, I could cut a section out and zip tie it over one hose nipple I guess. Just want to figure out how to rig a gauge to the other nipple, so I can watch for pressure drop.
10psi should be enough?
I figure I'll air...
So...it's getting chilly here in MD, but there's no winter salt on the roads yet so I'm still driving the Charger as much as I can.
But.
It's a FL car, and when I got it the heater core was simply unhooked. Not sure if it was "leak", or "Florida"...but I hesitate to fill it until I figure out...
This has been an interesting thread (I just stumbled on it waiting for decaf to brew). Two things:
First, I think everyone is missing the reason temps spike when there is air in a system. It isn't the sending unit that sees the air (and "heat"); it's an air pocket at the thermostat, which keeps...
I don't want to go completely Appalachian-engineering here (gatorade bottle), but I do want to have some sort of an overflow tank for my Charger. It appears not to have had one from the factory, only a hose that tucks through a slot by a corner of the battery tray. Was there ever a bottle used...
The one piece I placed on it for the photo, was the only piece still screwed to the dash. I'll probably JB it back on - with some fiberglass mat to help wrap and hold it in place - and then use a metal strap (think pipe strap) across the cable, attached with the 2 screw holes.
Cheaper and...
Looks close to mine. Maybe I'm missing another piece? Heres mine with the broken piece off:
...and with it kinda-attached.
I appear to be missing another piece on the left, I think...
Maybe I'll fab something to get two bolt-wings back...or just use a metal strap. Not like it's in plain...
No photo yet - it's the square black-handled "VENT" pull cable on the driver side (of a factory a/c car), and the plastic it mounts to the dash with is a gray plastic sleeve/bracket, kinda triangle shaped with a single screw hole in it. I'll try and post one tonight.
So, while working on my dash lights and horn relay I discovered a piece of plastic (broken) bolted to the underside of my dash. Once I got the cluster out, I looked down into the dash...and found the rest of it. It's the plastic piece that's supposed to hold the push-pull cable for the vent...
So, I'm reading this thread with interest. Just got my 70 Charger 500 on Monday. Survivor unrestored Florida car, heater core unhooked. Before I hook it up and bathe my interior in coolant (was it unhooked because it's Florida? Or because it leaked?), I think I'll pull my box and check...
Thank you for the tips. I guess I'll start the hunt for both a valve, and a core. And a manual, to see how much "fun" this is going to be. And while I have it apart, I may as well toss in an a/c core too...
I did get new hoses on, and cut to length...but just clamped around bolts at the...
Hi, first post here, just got my new-to-me 1970 Charger 500 home last night. 318, auto, factory a/c car. Not new to B's though, I've owned my '72 Satellite Custom station wagon for nearly 25 years now.
The Charger was a Florida car all its life, and the heater core is unhooked. I'm guessing...
