Installing a new flat tappet cam?

Please consider these checklist items first. I've posted this list in previous threads, but have just heard of another (chebby lol) friend having a FT cam go flat 10 minutes into run-in....it never ends! It sucks, but gone are the days of "just stab it and go" cam installs.... I haven't had a...

Question For The Gear Vendor Folks

When running an H-pipe exhaust, did you have to relocate the crossover? I have the older TTI H-pipe setup (3") on mine. '68 Plymouth. Looks like it will be close, just wondering what some of you have run into. Thanks!

    Sillynder Head Weights

I'm sure this is common knowledge to some of you, but I've seen head weights asked about and lots of general 'oh pretty good' type answers so I thought I'd post these. We like real info! '452' assembled................49.9 lbs '452' bare.........................45.4 lbs Edelbrock RPM...

    Some Trick Flow Spring Info

This might be old news for many of you, but I never found any 'as-tested' numbers on these so I though I'd pass it along to keep FBBO hip.... The TF240 'hydraulic roller' springs on the #7802 heads I have here tested quite a bit different than the paperwork shows. Seat pressure (TF spec) 138 @...

Trick Flow Rocker Shaft Stud Kit #61600613

Can anyone verify the length of the studs in this kit? No specifics on the Summit's description page, or the TF site, or even ARP...Thanks

Lashing valves--EOIC vs. the MP Chart

Just for general info---- I've always used the 'EOIC' method and a starter switch, but since I was just futzing around in the garage yesterday evening I thought I'd try running the valves both ways. "What the fudge I've never used the TDC chart, but people say they like it....maybe it's nice...

    Romac dampers

Hey all, can anyone confirm if the Romac dampers for 440 are still made 'down under'? Not too many places are selling them, (just like their/Rollmaster timing sets) and that information isn't stated. There is a picture of a box on their website that does say 'manufactured in Australia' but I'm...

    One-piece 440 windage tray + gasket

I've only used the steel MP style trays but I decided to give Summit's composite piece a try. My question is, are you folks using any sealers with them? I figure a little's needed at the timing cover and rear seal retainer joints, but the rest of it? I have a Milodon pan by the way, with the...

    505 Stroker Oil Pan/Pickup/Tray Setup?

What are you folks finding to work best for your 4.25" stroke RB builds? I am leaning toward just a 6-qt hemi style pan as my engine will be more street beast than track terror...I like the deeper windage tray that 440 source makes, but which pickup? I have zero problem clearancing/cutting the...

    Stepped Dish Pistons

I have the forged ICON 842s (27cc dish). Do they calculate the dish volume from the top surface of the step, or the outer edge that surrounds the dish? I would think it's from the highest point of the piston... Another question. They sit, by spec, at .010" in the hole. The plan is to get them to...

    Timing set opinions.

What are your thoughts on the torrington bearing-equipped timing gears, in NON-roller cam applications in the big-block Mopar? Some say use it as the bearing prevents wear on the block surface. Others say don't bother.... Thanks!

    Truck Dana 60

Did the Dana 60s used in the HD trucks have the same axle housing tube diameter as the car versions? (More specifically '84 D-250) Thanks!

    New build. 505"

I'm starting to get thoughts together for a 440-505 build. When the time comes to select and get with a machinist/short block builder, they will direct from there but I learned a long time ago that it's best to at least have some kind of plan going in. Hot street car but I'm not looking for MAX...

Plugging the DS lifter oil galley when using a solid camshaft

How necessary is it? At what power level/expected RPM/application would you do this mod? Reason I ask is I'm starting to lay the groundwork for my next engine build, a 4.25-stroked 440 and I'm 'off' hydraulics from here on out, on anything but stock or very mild builds. That said, on this...

    Engine Balance Question

I have a 440 rotating assembly with six-pack rods and Icon 9947 pistons. Balancing was previously achieved by drilling the forged crank. If this crankshaft was to be used with an LY-type rod and lighter piston, would it need to have weight added, or more drilling? Thanks!

Idle in 'D' vs Reverse Question

I'll try to explain bestest I can....at idle, shift into R, take foot off the brake, car moves with what feels like twice as much power as foot-off-the brake idle in D. It rolls a bit faster and the E-brake doesn't stop it; in D the car rolls slower. Normal? Or does the trans need some kind of...

    I'm losin' it...

I have 100 miles or so on my rebuilt 440. Been driving it around, doing coast downs and trying to keep rpms varied as much as practical. (Even though some say the old break-in stuff is outdated just drive it like you stole it)..Took it through 1st/2nd full throttle and eased off at 3rd gear...

    Timing?

Okeedokee. Working on getting my freshly rebuilt 440 dialed in and the timing seems weird..at idle the rpms and vacuum don't start to level out until I get to around 35 degrees? The engine is now .060 over, compression is a hair less than 9.5-1 (it was about 8.8 before) cam is 231/237 @ .050...

    Replacing RB's rear main

Ok..for starters, yup I've read the sticky and just about every other thread on just about every other site. I'm going to replace the seal myself. Engine is out but I don't want to completely remove the crankshaft. #5 cap is off for access. The builder offered to redo it but I said I just assume...

    Clearances & Viscosity

Curious..those of you that know your clearance numbers, what weight oil do you run? I'm at .0027 main/.002 rod and it's been recommended I run a 15 or 20/50 on my 440+.060(It gets hot here).
