That depends on the age of the mountainous terrain and the rolling hills to the valley. Some have been isolated so long the valley is to dense to be inhabitable anymore. That would require the area to be totally defoliated.

Agreed..... some of those older valleys might be severely overgrown and have crystalline deposits forming in the dense crevices and undergrowth.
