I pulled poly 318 and cable shifted 727 out of 1965 Coronet. Have a 440 and 1974 727 replacing it. Was wondering if anybody knows if the tailshaft off the 1965 727 will fit on the 1974 727, that way dont need special mount or modifications to mount. Thank You!!

It will not. But save the tail shaft and the tail shaft housing. They can be used to convert a 62-64 ball and trunion to a slip yoke style.

I am pretty sure 1965 was the first year of the slip yoke rear end, so drive shaft should fit.
The trans mount though is different between 65 & later models.

My 65 Belvedere wagon had a ball and trunion driveshaft. I had a new slip yoke driveshaft made when I put in the newer 727.

For those using a 65 tail shaft and housing. There is a rib about 1" ahead of the splines on the 65 output shaft. A conventional yoke needs to be trimmed about 3/8" or it will bottom on that rib. Easy to do with a large 10" cutoff wheel (Lowes, Home Depot) installed in a miter saw.

65 Setup is very desirable, lots of people looking for them.
