1966 Coronet 440 field find

Thanx Tallhair. I am trying to avoid any extra work so by taking time to get the putty right I hope to only have minimal blocking to do. I wish I would have thought of this when I welded underneath the drivers side. It sure made it easier. All the welding is done on the quarters. I patched the pin holes in the trunk with fiberglass. I might take a break tomorrow..........maybe!

Moving right along and looking good. I drove our silver 66 Coronet today and the total number of people that stopped me to check it out was five. Two older guys in a jacked up F350, one grade school aged kid on a bitchen BMX and two hipster chicks. I hope you are ready to be social! Forgive me if I missed it but what color are you going to lay down on it?

Great plan!....now can I borrow your garage a while? haha...Keep up the good work, you will have that thing painted in no time at your pace.

Jeremiah, are you sure the chicks were looking at the car?! I hope people take interest in the old girl. There's not to many around here that I know of. As for paint, it's not for sure yet, but I am thinking of silver with a blue pearl or just a silver / blue metallic. Now having said that I was looking at some paint chips and saw some light blue metallics I like too! I just want something that will draw out the lines of the body but nothing dark.

KB, you can use the shop anytime, just let me know when you're coming! I think Indiana is a fair distance so I should be able to have it cleaned up by the time you get here. I saw your Ice Cream sandwich.......brrrr, poor car, it's too cold to be eating ice cream for me!

Thanx for checking in guys!

My new project is a car I saw 15 or so years ago. I went back and it was still there, it had been parked in 1978. I paid $200 for it and brought it home. This was $150 more than the roving crushers had offered so we were both happy. After inspecting the car it appears the floor, trunk and frame rails are near perfect with only one little hole where the gas pedal goes and a small hole in each wheel well in the trunk. It would be nice to find a couple fenders, but these can be repaired if need be. The rear quarters also can be fixed but a donor car is what I will be looking for. I think it will become a big block car with an auto trans. I am thinking about making it an R/T clone, but I'm not sure about that. I have to give credit to Daredevil, his car is what lead me to go back and rescue this one. Anyway here's the starting point.

Thanx anyways sleepar, but I just picked up a great set last week at the swap meet.

great to see another being saved! keep us updated.

Thanx Basket case, I was starting to think I'm updating too much!

not a chance! You're doing what some of us want to. My garage had 6 inches of snow between the house, no heat. Keep the pics coming!

Guys like me live vicariously through your builds while ours are ....in ice cream....so to speak....

So update as much as you like!

I blasted and primed the hood hinges, door hinges and the upper panels for the back seat. While I was stripping the old felt off the trim pices I saw that they were originally attached with staples, which I must admit had me a little concerned. I had a look at my new replacements and found they come with little screws for re-attaching them.

Your doing a great job, i love to see updates myself, need all the car **** we can get, The weather starting to improve a little here, spring times on its way and long been waiting for it this year, 44 degrees and sunshine today, maybe were not at the north pole like we were starting to think lol.. When i put new ones on my 73 i had the screws to play with to, most wouldn't work and had to drill a few holes for screws, i hope it all works for you, its been so long now i cant remember where i got them but most everything i bought at that time was from Year One, shipping capital of the world :)
I do more reading then posting anymore but love to watch this all come together! All your work really looks great good luck!

Thanx jlukas. That is a great pic for reference. I need to fab up the bucket seat re-enforcement plates and the hole for the linkage is good to see as well. If this is still accessible, I wouldn't mind a measurement from the top of the shifter mount down to the console mounting plate. I'm hoping mine is the right height.

The distance from flat surface to flat surface on that bracket as shown in the photo is 2.5" Hope this helps!

Yes sir jlukas, that is exactly what I wanted to hear! I don't know what the other piece would have been cut from but it sits at least an inch lower. In any case it's good to know mine is correct. Thank you very much.

On pause for a while....likely quite a while. I am off to work overseas. I'll be gone 5 weeks on this run and then be working 4 on and 4 off after that. I will be back in April, but with my daughter's wedding happening in June, most of that time will be spent preparing for it. I may get a little time in on the car here and there, but certainly not a lot. So now I begin car withdrawals! I'll be relying on FBBO for my fix!

Darn it Gdrill . . . I was getting use to all the updates that you were providing . . . now they're going to stop for a bit . . . bummer !

Have a safe trip - looking forward to seeing you back online and updates on your build . . .
