Hello All, any thoughts on starting a thread on the restoration of my 68 Charger RT nut and bolt restoration and some how to's on component restorations from start to finish. Here are the pic in the beginning

nice looks like the car is all there will be tagging along

I am another absolute fan of the 68 Charger. Though no great expert, I would follow this thread all the way through.

From your screen name, I see you already know what you're in for!

Thanks for the responses. The snow was in 2005. The car is ready to come off the rotesserie and get its final paint on top. Then comes the fun part of putting it all back together. You are correct in my scrren name. It may be a money pit, but in the end it will have been a fun project. If I had to do it again, I would have bought one already done. I am sad to say that the car will no longer be green (661) spring only color. I was convinced to paint it any color but that and I had in the end agreed. It is 1968 Dodge Charger Bright Red which was also a spring only color. I will start posting the updated pics to show where it is at now. Many many years of research and having worked for Chrysler for years has not turned out to be a bad thing. I grew up around the car auctions in the very early 70's when these were $300 bones. Can you even imagine??? I am excited to get it back to my "man cave" or when I'm in trouble " the dog house" to start the reassembly this fall through the winter months. i have lots of pics and tips to share and hopefully some of you can share items with me as well. Someone please let me know if I am posting and updating what will be a lengthy thread or forum in the correct place???

Wait until you see the garage of EVERY single part under restoration. They are coming along great. I will keep posting as I time and pics downloaded. We fried our original computer and I am having a hard time finding all the pics that were on it. My wife is the smart one who keeps finding them.

We are coming around the bend. Paint coming soon

It is getting exciting to get to the next level of the obsession. Each and every part is coming along great. This Charger, despite being a color change, will be a stock build with no modifications. Just too bad it wasn't born Red. Being in the car industry has allowed me to use many of my resources to complete this project. Hope there is still someone out there looking??? I'll keep posting pics if you are.

I'm still watching and it is looking great, you must be excited. Is the thread caught up with where you actually are in the restoration?. I just got some body color on my project and I am pretty stoked about it.

Updated Progress

Haven't been on in a while, but the Charger is taking form this week. The doors and fenders are hung and being carefully aligned. We will hang the new brakes and fuel lines first like they did at the factory as I am told from everyone that it is pain to do after the fact. The axle will be bolted back in and off the rack she comes for final paint. I have been working in the garage nearly every night and weekends to do finishing on every component and nut and bolt. Some small items apear to be MIA after 5 years from the original bodyshop that did the heavy metal work. Hopefully he has a box of " I dont know where these came from parts"

Some other news is that I found the correct 727 transmission part number 2801541 from a company that only do 727's. The bonus was that it is within the date that would be appropriate for the build date on my car. Anyone looking for a vintage 727 that is already rebuilt using only Mopar parts this is a good source. You can find him at 727specialist.com.

I also finalized my order for a completely rebuilt grille. I had seen a gentleman that only builds 68 and 69 front grilles that are almost literally off the factory shelf and was so impressed with his detail and quality I ordered one to be hand built. My grille assembly is in great condtion except for a broken set of fins on the center section. I've pissed so much money on this car already, I figured why not some more. Anyone else got that same problem. Needless to say I am excited to get it soon.

I'll throw some new pic up next week if anyone is still looking. I thought of sharing some of the component restoration items and the hows and whats of them too if anyone is interested.

Oh yah. I have a survivor Ramcharger too

Thought I'd throw up a pic of the Ramcharger survivor I have too. It is a 1979 SE that has approx 80k on it. The engine is newer, but the body is original and not rotten as most have become. I used to build these as show trucks in the mid 80's when everyone thought Dodge wasn't cool. I kind of have the bug to finish this one too.

Hell Ya we're lookin'!!! keep postin' them pics...good inspiration for my next project!!!

BTW love the ramcharger...looks nice and clean...they're rare 'round these parts!!

Keep posting and I'll keep checking out your progress and I would love to hear more about the details on all of the little stuff as that is where I am on my project. Can't wait to see the grille and I like the Ramchargers too.

Latest Update, It's always something!

Thought I would throw a few pics up on the latest progress. It's always something!!! I worked on installing the fuel, brakes lines and brake cables last week. That went fairly smooth considering I didn't take them out and was scratching my head as to where the some the items attached to the car. I can always circle back when can look at one complete to compare. That being completed, I go to install the rear axle assembly all pretty and detailed, when I go to tighten the U bolts I encounter a couple of very stubborn bolts that won't move. I grab the impact to give it a quick zip, and stupid me, did not turn down the setting and stripped it out. Now I am waiting for the new U bolts and a couple of other last minute items and car will be on the ground by next week for final paint. Most of the parts are detailed in my garage awaiting the arrival of the beast. I will be completing the k member detailing and install suspension pieces and put it all together prior to bringing the car home for the long winter assembly. Haven't decided whether I should install engine and transmission from bottom side right away or wait until spring. Time and money will mandate. Thanks to all for looking and will keep you posted.

Looks like a great project!
I would love to have access to a rotisserie to put my Coronet up on and work on it, to be able to do exactly what it needs, with everything right in my face.
Instead, I'll be doing a lot of work on my back, and I don't know how much fun that will be...

Once you get one, a Rotisserie, you will NEVER want to mess with cars again w/out one, trust me, I only lay on the ground unless I have to; like broken down on the side of the road. You could buy one, or build one like I did. Good luck, and this Charger is looking really good.
