Finally dropped the engine in after finding the proper oil pan (971) and the proper pickup tube, (that was fun). Got the car as a project that was unfinished, so I did not tear it down. Car is coded as a 400 auto but after dropping a 440 in place, things were not lining up correctly. Got the right engine mounts and replaced the spools. Didn't tack them in like what some did on other post. So the drivers side fits in correctly, but the passenger side seems off. After some digging, I'm pretty sure that someone had previously changed the K-member to a small block. Mounts on the k-frame are offset so when the engine sits in both mounts the engine is not lining up, twisted towards the passenger side. But because I didn't tack the spools in, I'm able to push on the tail of the transmission and straighten the motor. Transmission lines up on the mount. Can I line up the engine and then weld the spools in place?
