2 Post Lift vs 4 Post Lift

2 post China job here. I don't use it daily but at least weekly for the past 4 yrs. IMO, it's the only way to go. My dad has both and uses the 2 post the most also.

Ceiling heights can & will ultimately dictate which one your able to use too...
I like both, I've had/owned both, like RC I've adapted well to a 4 post,
there are many options available too, tire changes & brake jobs take a little more set up time,
but not much really...
but the convenience of a 2 post is nice at times too,
both have there attributes, if you have a paying professional shop & have the room/height
than get 2 posters, for a hobby shop either will work, if you have the room
everyone needs to weigh & measure all the surroundings & what they will be used for, what will actually fit too...

Most 2 post won't fit in a regular ceiling height, if they will you can't lift a car high enough anyway,
especially of a typical track home or suburb garage...
Not everyone has a big shop, with high ceilings too...

Like I said I've had both I like both, I had a better shop 10 years ago too,
now when my current 42' x 28', with 12-14 ft ceilings, shop is done,
I will have a pit, a 4 poster lift, so I can store & work on cars both & a 2 post 10K# lifts,
so I can work on my tow rig & 4x4's too...

I like the fact you can safely stack cars with a 4 poster, especially if your limited on garage space...

Another thing I forgot to mention is storing a car underneath isn't really an option with most 2 post lifts. The suspension on the car up top will drop quite a bit and leave very little room to get a car under it.
I do a lot of suspension work so a 2 post is a must. My lift is extra wide/tall and I still can't fit anything under it.

Dave,
Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe that you have posted pictures of your cars on both types of lifts. Maybe posting those pics showing the different applications they could be utilized for?

These are the photos I believe you were referring to. The asymmetric 2 posts I have in my warehouses are great for working on the entire underside of a vehicle. The 4 post are good at storing any model or style of vehicle with relative ease. You just drive up on them and do not have to adjust support arms when swapping cars, like with the 2 post units. You can also install permanent track lighting on the 2 post units which is a huge benefit for working and detailing the underside of a car. The photo of my Mustang (below) was taken without using a flash. It's completely illuminated by LED Track Lighting. The strips are concealed so you can't even tell it's there unless you turn them on. The only real draw back to the 4 post is not being able to rotate or remove the tires while the vehicle is suspended.

[/QUWould you mind posting a couple pics of your track lighting install on your 2 post? Thanks.

Times 5. I need to get rid of a few for space. Either that or get more lifts! (lol) Both the Pace Car & the Z06 are brand new "older cars" with no miles. You might have mistaken the "red one" for the white one I picked up a while back?!?

65Fury440........ I'll post a picture of the lighting system for you. We actually inventory & distribute them for the 2 post Lift market if you're interested. Thanks!

Nice cars Dave, I have a GM garage, 3 hurst olsey, one with 420 miles on it, and the other 2 dont have 4000 between them, also have a monte ss with 8K, and a ta with 1900. No pace cars though, all the ones I seen were mild miles, and I want them low, I have a national with 8K though... I figure someday maybe they will be the hemi cudas of their time, lol... Just passed on a gnx with 28K miles, no original tires, no fun...

I guess I must have. I do remember you saying about the white one now but for some reason I thought you traded it in for another car.

Also, do I spy a scat pack challenger fender in one of those pics?

Yeah.......saw it when I went to a Dealership with Dave Stuart last Friday and thought I'd get it. Now I just need to find room for the 4 Door when it comes Home in a few of months. (lol)
