318 oil starved from day 1 —oil pickup damage

There is no oil pan damage, so this could have limited the oil supply right out of the gate. So far, only a bent push rod.

I’m just now pulling the engine apart, and that was how I found it. A faulty mopar oil pickup on manufacture date, looks like.

Could it be the oil pan had been damaged and replaced?

It's possible that the pump still pushed plenty of oil and the engine never knew the difference.

I have a hard time believing that that damaged pickup had anything to do with it.
You can pour sand into a 318 and it will eat it for lunch. How was the oil pressure?
I think look elsewhere.

Yup, I agree with everyone, that likely wouldn't hurt anything...
