340 Intake Crack take two!

Braze. Every time. Take your die grinder and lightly "vee" the crack, then clean up till shiny either side of it . Get it nice and hot so the braze runs into the crack, then cool it SLOWLY. The brass will be able to expand/contract better than other metals, and given it's location should be good for 50 more years.

I have had good luck brazing cast iron. Heat it with a torch first then braze away. Kim
Yes sir Kim and Mark. The way to do it for sure. Good place for it. No real stress just expansion.
When I was back in school I fixed a 6" vise like that once. Notched it out and filled her in with brazen rod. Ground her down to make it look kind of pretty. Sold it for 50 bucks.

Well, if you want to know what happens with a hole in the crossover, it blows all that carbon all through the engine, destroying bearings, piston skirts, oil pump.
I had an original police interceptor 428. It had a factory aluminum intake, with the heat shield on the bottom. After my engine was ruined, i pulled the heat shield off, and the crossover had corroded through.
I suppose it would go if it was still open. Too bad on the corrosion. That aluminum can be mighty finicky stuff sometime. Yeah If I ever did run it again I'd be blocking them off anyway.

We’re talking about the cast iron intake the original poster was asking about. The aluminum is a whole nother story. Kim

Well guys like I said earlier, since I have nothing to put this on to at this time. My plans were to just clean it up/blast and paint it up for a wall hanger more or less. Well wont be on the wall but will find someplace to put it. Spent last night blasting away at it. Cleaned pretty nicely. Finished it off this morning giving it a coat of Mopar Performance Hemi orange. Set it on my radiator to bake the paint all day and then this evening I chucked my Eddy on along with a old breather just to give it a finished look. Like I said now I have to figure out where to "display" it.
Here are a few pictures of the process. My big paint booth! lol

You said it Kim. No aluminum here. Just nice and heavy cast. What a bear to wrestle around the blast cabinet last night!
