heat or no heat for the intake

I have the heat blocked off to the intake on my 440 with a 1/8 to 1/4 hole for the exhaust valve reversion I don't think it is letting much heat in. sometimes the car will just chirp the tires and not pull very hard and other times it will go sideways and push you back in the seat running the 1/4 mile. runs better in hot weather for some reason. one time I tried 3 take offs off the line no power then the 4th time it came alive all within 5-10 minutes apart. i will have to open the heat back up which I hate to pull my intake off again. can anyone think of any other reason the power would change like that.

Posting the time slip will help us with diagnostics, if that is what you want.

I have made several hundred passes with a few different big block cars. Never have the cars gone faster and quicker with more heat. I do have considerable data that shows them slowing down with more heat.

If tire spinning is the gauge you are using, it is not a reliable indicator of performance.

If there are big swings in 1/4 mph, something else is not right.

when running good it picks up 4 tenths and 3.5 mph. they say you need 17-20 horsepower to feel a difference in a power gain and I feel a big difference when running good. I would say 35-40 HP more.
