Hope you don't mind me asking but why wouldn't you want a better design in main bearings?

When I was looking for my Clevite bearings, I also wanted the half groove. Not offered, was told because of newer designed engines, wasn't needed anymore. BS!
To get half grooves, would have to buy 'two' sets, one plain, one full groove, and swap halves.

i want the 1/2 grooves for tighter bearing clearances. the full grooves will be looser than i want for a stock build.

the "better" design is best for some applications but not all.

micing/dail bore gauge checking the mains. cranks in spec, main bores a few tenths big, oil clearance .0032" with the narrow full grooves,...ouch! i'd think with the millions of 361/383's made the stock bearings would be easy to come by; apparently not.

Well mine are full groove standards but they are 2006 so you are welcome to them may make a difference

Not sure how tight you want it but maybe try .001 bearings they do sell them.

Clevite MS1795V are 1/2 groove. I prefer using 1/2 groove if the power levels and rpm expected are mild.

Sorry - you are correct. I was using an iPhone sitting in the car and it wasn't a good way to try and help. I went down and checked my records - the last 383 I did (December) I used full groove because that's what was available. They may have phased them out. Full grooves have been pushed by the magazines for years now. Even King only list full groove now.

i was looking at king too and couldn't make heads or tails out of their on line catalog. i think stock bearings are extinct. the full groove P type bearings are giving me anywhere from .0031" to .0035" oil clearance; way too loose.

That's why you buy bearing before turning a crank. Get it turned to your clearances. Plan and simple
