Where do you find the hp casting on a 383. is there an area on the top of the motor like a 440. I supposely have a 69 383 in my 64 Ply that came out of a roadrunner and I want to verify. Thanks
Look on the block pad....Top right front of engine, pad is at an angle unlike a 440 which is level and a bit offset center to left at top front of engine...
Like Propwash says, top right front of the engine. It is machined flat with the right deck surface, hidden by the distributor cap.A '69 engine should be stamped E383 on the pad.The date of the block was poured is cast into the side of the block.
