Can a 400 cast crank be neutral balanced by reducing the bob weight? In other words, Can the external balance (cast crank vibration dampener and torque converter weights) weights be eliminated by using lighter pistons, pins, rods, etc. to bring it to neutral balance? If so, what is the bob weight of a cast crank without the external weights?

Where can I find specs on OEM factory bob weights for big block cranks?

Where do you get your cranks balanced and why are you using that shop/business?

Thanks, John

John,
I imagine it can be done but, why? Start with a forged 383 crank is my recommendation. Good luck.

Right...if you are building a stock stroke 400, just use a 383 forged crank. They are very inexpensive and are very strong.

IIRC this is addressed in the "451 manifesto" available from various online sources.
