400 Stroker Rebuild Sounds Like a Bucket of Bolts

The excessive side clearance is rather clear, the question on the table was it livable?
would you want it in your street car ? you think it would be noisy plus it would side load the pistons against the cylinder walls. effect ring seal maybe.

No, not for a second, but Nick seemed to imply he has seen it before and the downsides were not observed nor obvious, and why I thought the question was worth asking.
I "thought" side clearance played a major role in oil flow/pressure operating aspects.

it seems like it does not affect oil pressure unless it exposes the oil holes in the crank journals. must be a reason the factory wanted 9 thousand-17 thousand clearances and not 250 thousand like at Nicks.

Did nick happen to say what the oil pressure actually was? I’d be pulling the front cover and degreeing cam and checking for missing galley plugs.

If you do the math the side clearance isn't the restriction of oil exit flow at the rod bearing. It's the rod bearing to crank clearance. I've never talked to anybody that ran wide side clearance where it caused an issue.

So, we have come full circle, if side clearance has no oil pressure related concerns here, what exactly is/was the problem with the side clearance mentioned in this motor, other than it was not the norm?

Regardless, there does seem to be a solid consensus from my readings on side clearance/oil pressure issues.

I also believe strongly flow path restrictions that are in series ALL play a part in total flow, no matter what relation restriction wise they are to each other.

I would think I would have more issue concerning the rod bearings with excessive side clearance play for a number of reasons.
