Wallace racing has a dynamic compression ratio calculator where you can plug in all your engine/cam specs and it will give you a set of compression ratio numbers. I would read and research the following and how they affect detonation to help you decide what compression ratio will be best to try and attain.

Timing advance
General rule of thumb is iron heads, stay below 9.5:1 compression and 10.5:1 with aluminum heads. Anything over that with either one and depending on the rest of the engine specs and how everything is setup it may require race gas or at minimum a mix of race gas and regular.
