To the 496 stroker guys out there: has anybody got times for 1/4 mile or 0-60 mph with his 496 stroker car??
I‘d like to compare to mine. My feeling is, a 496er is lame as a bug!

Rear end is Moser 3.55:1 and TF727 standard automatic transmission. Carb is Holley 850 Street HP and manifolds.

Years ago I picked up a 11.64 timeslip at a test and tune night strip. Since then I have added 40 HP with a dyno tune.

I've seen 496 combos running from low/mid 12s to 9s and 10s depending on many factors. Do you have a time or MPH to compare or is it just seat-of-the-pants for now? What times are you looking for? Or do you just feel it's lacking 'pep' on the street?

With 496 cubes the 850 Holley and manifolds aren't helping if your looking for ETs. That could be killing quite a bit of power right there.
Could be the tune is a little off, like '493 Mike' said above tuning can make or break you. So can the proper converter.
Maybe tell us about your goals and build (cam/compression/intake manifold/exhaust size/heads/car weight/chassis setup) and what is and isn't working for you.

Have you checked out the sticky threads over in the 'Racer's Hangout' section? You might find a similar combo.

I will tell more details about the engine and converter.
My goal is just to compare, as I think it feels lame and not powerful going like it was supposed to do.

Without specific information on your build , car weight and your et, mph, and 60ft time, no meaningful comparisons can be made.

500 stroker in a 69 Barracuda with 3.55 gears, and a 750 carb, 1 3/4 headers through full 2 1/2 inch exhaust, best of 11.53 at almost 120 mph.

Mine is a 440/493 stroker in my 3700 pound 63 without me in it. Its 10.6 comp has good .045 quench and a custom grind flat tappet to keep cyl pressure pump gas friendly. And it has the basic Indy SEZ heads. Its run a best of 10.70's @ 125 but I run 4.30 gears and a 30" tall tire. And I race it in full street trim as I drive it to the track and have never uncapped it but its a 3" exh with Ultra-Flow mufflers. I agree if you want to free up about 25 to 30 hp go to headers. Good luck , Ron

Duster with 400/451 stroker runs 10.30s. But car is stripped down a bit to just over 3000 lbs. Engine is higher comp at 12.7:1 with Brodex B1/BS mild ported heads. On Single 4-barrel 4150 style 1050 CFM E-85 metered Holley. (Eddy 383 Victor manifold) Solid lift mech cam .590 lift. 727 reverse valve body trans. 4000 Hughes stall convert. To an 8 3/4 Mosier 35 spline spool rear. 4:56:1 gear. 30x10.5" tire.

With that rear gear car is pretty much done at 135 MPH. Shift light on when crossing traps. At 6500+ RPM. It's still trying to pull since it certainly has more RPM. But 4:56:1 is plenty steep with a 1-1 final trans gear. Maybe in the SB world it's average. But a BB? She is screaming plenty.

I'm guessing that motor in my Street GTX around 3600 lbs? (The low deck 451 with aluminum heads I'm guessing is about 70 lbs lighter than stock all iron RB 440?) With same gear and tire? Again guessing low 11.

I know it's not quite "Apples to Apples" But for what it's worth?

I have this motor 493 with the flat top piston with eyebrows, Indy sr head ported, 4.10 gears 4000 stall 1050 holley ,the cam was a hughes solid cam 573 intake 582 exhaust with 1.6 rockers 611 in 621 ext which im using.
8th times 6.80 at 99.10 mph which should be in the 1/4 mile 10.61
this was on Street et tires.

Stroker displacement will increase torque, but airflow through the engine makes power.
If it has stock heads, manifolds, mild cam, low compression, Small induction (carb/Intake/air filter) it will hurt power.
1/4 mile MPH gives an indication of power if the cars weight is known.
ET has alot to do with traction and gearing plus weight and horsepower.

Usually a stroker will have aluminum heads that flow 290+ cfm, 10:1+ compression, and high lift cams of 235+ duration @ 0.050", 1-7/8" or larger headers,, and 2.5" or larger exhaust system. A intake manifold that has flow that can keep up with the heads, and a carb larger than 750 cfm. Don't forget the air filter needs to handle the air flow too. Usually a 14"x3" or larger filter element.
Ignition curves usually are around 16 initial, 32-36 total mechanical.
When changing intakes/carbs the factory throttle linkage often is too short. Make sure the throttle opens all the way.
The throttle bracket and trans kickdown linkage usually needs to be modified too.

Then, don't forget the fuel system too. Usually 3/8" or larger tank pickup and fuel lines, and for 600 HP, a fuel pump with 60+ GPH (about 225+ LPH) flow capacity.

We’ve got 4 440 stock stroke builds that that run between 10.90 and 11.50s at pretty much factory weight. 3 are pump gas

My best is 6.83 at 100 mph 1/8 and 10.76 at 124 plus in the 1/4. So your right in the 10.60 to 10.70 range. Ron

Slowest one of the bunch but here goes, My old 70 Polara 4 dr with a 9.2-1 496 (spare parts short block with no quench), smallest solid cam Hughes had at the time, Ported iron heads with big valves, port matched Edelbrock ch4b ,Holley 750HP mechanical secondary, 1 3/4 headers 3" to x pipe then full 2.5 exhaust,11" converter and 3.55 gears. 12.54 @ 107 and best in the 1/8 was some 7.90's.
