I just got my 63 running again, back to a street car. It hasn't had a heater in for the last 20 years. I have the heater in and wired up but it isn't Putting out any heat. I have miss placed the vacuum connector and lines. Is there a way to just get the heat going with out that until I find the lines? Even if its just defroster that would be ok.. Also is there a place to buy the boot that connects the motor to the side vent? Hopefully mine isn't in the same place as the vacuum lines, because I haven't been able to find that dang booty!

Yes you can push or pull the temp cable (water temp) into a position(see pic below) also the cool/heat actuator (left in pic)
You won't need the large fan pipe (unless you want fresh air ) as it will recirculate the heat.
There are 3 vacuum actuators .
Notice there are 7 hoses , 1 for the manifold vacuum supply & 2 for each actuator (push ,pull) for fresh air-recirculate air ,cool-heat & defrost-cabin.
And a water temperature cable

The concertina type hose for the fan to vent you could trey Joey Suchy ,I have also seen a few on eBay over the years .

Try this for vacuum pipe routing http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/ml-62-65heaters.html

So I have it wired up and the heat control valve connected and the car up to temp. Still no heat. Fan blows only cold. What am I missing? The vacuum only controls air direction right? I can move the bellows by hand and it seems to just switch between foot and defrost.

I am guessing the last 20 years in the attic wasn't good for the heat core. Both hoses seem hot but maybe its not flowing through it.

Did you check that core isn't plugged up! Might check the heater hose and make sure they are flowing the right direction!

I am guessing its plugged. I tried swapping hoses real quick to see if I could get heat with no luck. Both hoses felt pretty warm. I'll try forcing some air through it tomorrow.

There is a small copper wire thats attached to the heater valve which goes into the heater box. Aka thermo couple. If this is not working you might not get heat, for it doesnt allow internal parts to move, even though you can move the cable . The internals are probably mucked up from age etc. It might take some time n maybe you get lucky parts will free up. But for now you should be able to move the floor heat door by hand and see if you have any sort of radiant heat going on. Fyi if you elect to remove heater valve from heater core, the oil rings are not really round, they are flat, and sometimes leaks might happen if you use regular orings. If it needs to be rebuilt, I think JC Auto in Lynwood Wa rebuilds and tests them, Jeff is not cheap, but he does good work.

Well I'll drive it a bit and see what happens. I replaced it once about 22 years ago. So it only had about 2 years of use on it. Maine it will start working. Everything looks good.

I replaced it once about 22 years ago.
If the heater core is that old, also consider the rubber seal at the heater core valve. If it's bad, it will leak inside the car. That valve is for off/on coolant flow through the core.

I had my core/valve rebuilt at a radiator shop. Yes, the vacuum hoses open, and close the different controls.

Did you ever try blowing air through the system? If the heater core isn't flat clogged up, should get flow, as long as the heater valve is open.

No that's next on the list. Drove it about 60 miles yesterday. It never warmed up. I'll probably tinker with it Friday

I HAVE HEAT!! Thanks for all the info! I ended up hooking the air compressor up to the hoses and blew some nastly crud out both directions then pluged the nozzle for the hose on it and ran water through till it came clean filled it up to help with air bubbles and she works.

Oh I also found my Vacuum lines and dash connector still in tact. Does anyone have a routing diagram? Once I get this heat deal squared away I'll be digging out the ol' pushbutton trans and getting after that. Just need to find that 65 tail shaft etc..

Got the lines all figured out thanks to a earlier post. It all works surprisingly, since it been sitting since 1994ish. they actuators move a little slow but hopefully a little WD and some movement will have it all going like new. Thanks everyone.. Now on to the pushbutton trans..
