Where is a good place to buy an antenna socket for my '67 Belvedere II? I want to buy a car cover for my car and since none of them come with a hole for the antenna, I will have to make my own. The only way I can see to accurately locate the hole is to loosen the antenna nut, drop the antenna down into the fender, then put the cover on and mark it by finding where the hole in the fender is.

Are you looking for a grommet to place in the cover to accept the installed antenna?

I just carefully use needle nose pliers to remove the top nut, if that helps. You could put tape on the tips of the pliers for added protection.

I just unscrew the mast leaving the base in the fender...

Another idea that might get you where you want to go...I modified my original 67 AM (telescoping) antenna to accept a newer (1980ish?) FM (solid length) antenna that screws into the base. I listen to FM radio so better reception, and can remove the antenna when I put the cover on.

It's been a while, but IIRC the units are basically the same size and I put together the guts of the newer FM unit with what I needed from the original AM unit for mounting it to the fender for the correct fit. I'm happy with how it turned out.
