Gotcha!

That’s the stripped down wing window frame. The rivets you see are to hold the wing window pivot. Once you have that back together then your ready to mount the chrome bar that runs from the lower door all the way to the top, to the frame. You can either glue (epoxy) it together or try to re-smash the original studs.

These projects progress and you never quite know how they end or what things need addressed when they get done. What happens after the first drive?

My list of 'what's left' is the rocker molding and grill/bezels. Getting close with the grill, didn't start the rockers yet.

I did get to drive about 10 miles today after the alignment. Here's my list:

- Speedo - I noticed the other day it didn't work on my 1-2 mile drive. Brought it home and messed around with the cable at the trans. Ran a drill and proved the speedo and cable both work. Hooked it all back up and today it worked. Guess it wasn't seated somewhere.
- Fuel gauge - these aftermarket sending units are garbage. There's about 10 gal in the tank and I'm on E. I crawled under the car and shorted the sending wire and it went to F. Wire and gauge work. Measure the ohms and I have 78 with 5 gal in it. Checked ground and that was good too. Guess I need to pull the sender. Ugh...
- Neg Battery Cable - more junk. I have a habit of disconnecting the ground when the car sits. This morning I grab the cable to put it on and the wire pulls out. To fix it I drilled a 1/4" hole in the bottom and got the soldering iron out. Heated it up and melted a bunch of solder in the hole.
- Brakes - after my drive they were way too tight. Had a little smoke coming off rear brakes. I'll adjust them down a little.
- Kick Down - I have that adjusted to FSM specs and I can tell I need to play with that a little too.

Other than that, this thing seems to be running pretty good.

I had to make new outside rockers. Now i have to figure out where to locate the holes for the chrome trim.

My new rockers arrived today and I had a chance to install one side. I’m going to do this in parts or multiple posts since there’s a few topics.

First - Clips. My original clips didn’t all survive the last 50 years. Searching online it looked everyone was out of the correct clips and the back orders were long. While I was at Carlisle in the Mega Parts tent I asked for the clips expecting to get a ‘no’ but they said yes! These clips are not exactly the same but they serve the purpose. The repops are a 32nd off for the pin and screw hole making them not install perfectly into the factory holes but it’s close enough. Also they are missing the sliders or little tabs on the side. Again, not a huge deal functionally. Mega
Parts had them listed for the 67 R/T application. They are stiffer than original also.

Repop vs original.

Next spacing. This is a reference post. Measuremnets are from the rear wheel well, you can see where I clipped the tape measure. I pulled the length of the rocker not moving for the tape for the total length.

Last up - the rocker moldings. My originals exist but I couldn’t get straight enough to be happy. My trim guy wanted a boat load of hours and he said they would be perfect. These aren’t bad but they are long wide pieces to get straight. I found OER repops them. I’m not a fan or OER but they’re the only ones who make them so I had no choice. I bought from Summit and got free shipping, I think these were over $300 for the pair. Upon unpacking they look like the originals. One thing I’ve always noticed with OE vs repop trim are the sharp edges. For some reason the repop stuff is always sharp and leads to scratching, these are no exception. I will say the OE ones had some sharp spots too. These came with a few very minor imperfections, not enough I was going to send back. Overall they’re good, rate 8/10.

I need the vertical measurement center hole to lip

Looks like all clips are 2 1/4” from the rocker bottom.

Getting down to the final details. I started going back over the paint with a fine tooth comb and re-buffing the car now that it’s all together. Got the right side done and threw the pin stripe on. These were supposed to be painted on from factory but I’m opting for tape right now. I found a tape that matches the factory tape widths and gap, only misses by 1/16th of an inch. I want to make sure I like it before we paint it on.

Last detail for the trunk is the mat. This car had a mat in it which I assume was it’s born with mat. The pattern was hounds tooth. The one picture is the new pattern and old original mat piece that I saved. This mat was the only one available with this pattern I could find. It was from a reseller on eBay but comes from ACC Carpets. I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up rolled and not folded. I let it lay out for a couple days before I put it in. Looks pretty good. Back of the mat is smooth and shiny, the original has a pattern, I guess you could call it that, on the back.

Can’t upload this picture, here’s a picture of the picture. Installed mat.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought re-pop console plates. The piggy bank is empty. These things are pretty expensive for what they are IMO. It looks like only two people make these, PG Classics and OER. The OER ones are a little less but they are on indefinite backorder or something like that. I don’t think they shipped any yet, not sure how that’s a backorder.

Anyway, these get installed tomorrow. I’ll report back.
