67 R/T... Back to Life

Engine looks great, it was lucky you had original paint to match the color. There are so many versions of that turquoise out there, no way to know whats right.
If your interested BAPS in York, Pa has that color on file in Shopline JE Acrylic Enamel. Turns out there are a couple Mopar resto shops in the area, we just matched the sprayout.

I've been dabbling here and there on a few items but this weekend I dropped out the rear in preparation of building a dolly for rear of the car. I noticed a couple things:

- all tags were intact, SureGrip and 3.23.
- drums have some sort of red paint on them, original?
- one mark on housing, original paint stripe?

I'll be working to disassemble and get that all cleaned up. It's pretty crusty right now.

I've been working on interior parts and tried out interior paint from Herbs. Stuff worked pretty good! Also all my Legendary order came in, that stuff will be going to the Upholstry guy this week hopefully.

Here's the emblems that go on the seats. Polished them and re-detailed the black potion. Blue vinyl part cleaned up but I'll hit them with some dye so they match everything.

I got a little surprise the other day, my FCA request for IBM card came back. The good part was I have a copy of the IBM card and FCA confirmed the selling dealer was Stetler Dodge in York. The bad part was they wrote a letter saying the archives was too busy and short handed, they did not decode the IBM card. They also sent my check back. Not too bad I guess.

I haven't updated the thread for a while but I've been hard at work. Majority of the metal work is done. I'm waiting on a rear piece for the PS rear quarter. It was hit lightly and has some 70's body work done, or lack there of. Once that gets here I'll decide whether I'm going to splice the piece in or leave it as is. I have it straightened out but it'll take some filer to get the shape back.

I started block sanding and using a small amount of filler to level areas out. I'm blocking on the epoxy with 150 and any filler with 80. Most of the sheetmetal is hung but still working on fitment. Once all the blocking and filler is done it will go for round one ofmhigh build... and more block sanding.

I have all my interior parts from Legendary now and seats are at the uholstry shop, they should be back in mid January.

I rebuilt my center console and have that ready to re-install when the time comes. Everything detailed and looking pretty good. I used the original top plates and they don't look too bad.

One product I'm pleasantly suprised with is Herbs interior paints. I have to say they work well and the color is dead on. I've redone the console, kick panels, steering column cover and arm rests with it and they look great.

Had a couple things to post. First, my upholstry guy called and had my seats done already. Originally he said mid January but he got to them early. I've had a couple jobs done by him. They do custome work also at resonable prices. Statler Auto and Upholstry in Gettysburg, Pa. ask for John. Emblems are pulled a bit snug on the fronts but the material should relax a little once they see the sun. I looked and we're at the very end of pins one the emblem so they have to be pretty snug. I looked at a few cars online and they all seem to be pulled like that if the emblems are there. Overall I'm pleased with them. I have the seat backs and trim all ready to install, well almost. Still waiting on the carpet for the seatbacks. I'll post pics once there all together.

Next up... metal work. I think I'm done after today. This car was not rusty at all and it seems like I did a fair amount of metal work. Today's adventure was not rust repair but rather a collision repair from 1970 something. I tried to fix it with out cutting a section out but I just couldn't get it to my satisfaction. I could have put a bunch of filler in it but that would have bothered me. Here's some pictures. I got a doner piece from a member here.

Wow! Guess it's been a while. Happy new year! I've been working on all kinds of stuff, mostly body work. I also have some component resto that I'll share too.

Trans is back from being rebuilt. This was done by a local shop who is well respected and enjoys the Mopar world. We beefed this up a little bit with a mild shift kit. If your in the area and need an old car worked on call Joe at Yoe Service Center.

Body work is getting close to high build surfacer. Gaps are done and everything's getting straight.

Major milestone this weekend... car is ready for high build primer. All metal and rough work is done. All panels are gapped and panels are leveled out, car is sanded at 150 grit. Trunk was probably the most time to work out the panel to panel height. Doors and hood also needed some persuasion.

Seems like the trunk area is requiring the most time. I started there and it's still not where I want it. Also have a couple touch up items in the engine bay, those repairs will get surfacer and go right to sealer and color coat once the rest of the car gets to that point.

Component resto continues. Wiper motor is at BM Cuda and I have a bunch of small parts at a local plater for clear zinc.

It's always fun getting your parts back. I picked up my clear zinc parts today.

The pictures in the thread show the process:
- Clean and degrease parts
- Media blast, glass bead in this case
- Drop off at B&B Metal Finishing in Manchester, Pa

It also feels good when you feel like you got a deal. All these parts were plated for $40. I couldn't have bought repop stuff for anywhere near that price.

These are all original parts, coil bracket and distributor hold down look great. Can't wait to get them on the engine.

It's March already. I've been work on... you guessed it, bodywork. Car is scheduled to be handed of next Monday. Over the last few weeks I've been getting all the prep work done. Car came apart and all jams, doors, underhood, engine compartment, and trunk are all sanded/scuffed and ready for paint. I'm hoping the car can go into high build or surfacer and head straight to paint from there. Only one round of blocking would be good. I think the trunk has been the most time consuming. All those little grooves and ackward angles, also hard to reach. I've been spraying surfacer in the trunk and now it's all sanded out and new seam sealer applied. Picture was right after epoxy and surfacer was applied to the main pan area. Pushed the car out and blew the shop out today, plenty of wind to help me with that. Body work is time consuming and tedious to do right. I haven't posted hours for a while but every weekend I've worked for 12 hours at least. Even had the kids and wife helping scuff jams. But I'm at the reward point I think. I have one more weekend and that will be spent underneath the car. I chose not do the bottom since it's undercoated and in great condition. No rust. I will clean everything up under there and spray trim black to freshen up the under coating.

Also picked up all my chrome this week. 16 weeks on the nose.

96 hours since I last posted hour.

I mentioned that my chrome came back and I got to start detailing and assembling some parts.

I decided to disassemble my original mirror since the glass was date coded (10 6, Oct 66) and in good shape.

Here's what putting a remote mirror back together looks like.

Next is emblems. I have some touch up once these dry but overall not to bad. It's a miracle Librandis was able to get these back into some sort or presentable shape.

I'll probably work on the tail panel and tail light bezels this week end, those turned out great.

Big day today! The car was dropped off at the body shop.

Before we get to that... this weekend I went through the under side of the car and that's all done and ready to go. I had scrubbed and pressure washed the under side back when the car came back from epoxy and that process cleaned it pretty well. On Saturday I laid on my back and scrubbed it again with wax and grease remover and towered it down. Since the underside was all original under coat and no rust repair needed I decided to top coat the undercoating to freshen it up. Turned out great.

The body shop I chose for this project is local to me and they have a full service center, fab shop, body shop, and upholstery shop. Lucky 7 Rod Shop is in Stewartstown, Pa. with all the work I already put in the plan is to layer up some primer surfacer and block it down twice, then straight to paint.

I'll be working on the front K frame and engine along with rear suspension while it's away. I want to have it rolling pretty much the day it comes back.

Had a little bit of time this weekend. Since the car is at the body shop now I get to work on something other than body work. My goal for when the car comes back is to have it rolling on its suspension. k frame and rear are the foundation to all that for sure. I spent the morning running the bead blaster and the afternoon painting. Color looks pretty shiny in the pictures but it's still really wet in the picture. It died back to a more satin finish.

Also stopped Friday at the body shop and the car is in high build. Hopefully they do the blocking this week.
