69 gtx running issues

thats the piece i have been trying to loosen so i could put it on an eddy carb. they must have used locktite on it because the retaining screw will not loosen. by any chance do you know if its left handed threads like some lug nuts? :)
No it’s not left hand threads. They either used loctite on it, or cross threaded it and forced it.
Some heat from a propane torch will loosen loctite, but this could lite your carb on fire. Make sure you have a big enough screwdriver to fill the slot in the screw. And don’t use screwdrivers with worn tips. Try to tighten the screw first and this may break it free so it will come out. It does work.

I’ve not had good luck trying to put the stock choke parts on an edelbrock or aftermarket Carter Carb. They don’t have the same hook ups.

back to your car problem, the choke shouldn’t really be needed after it has run for a few minutes and get some heat into it.

When you run the car does the heat crossover in the intake manifold get hot after a few minutes? If it doesn’t it’s probably blocked, and that can cause many odd running problems until it’s been run for 30 minutes or it’s 95 degrees outside.

ill have to check next time i run the car. which i will do tomorrow. the eddy is installed to see if it helps. i will have to get the wife to help me start it since the chock will not work. will update tomorrow and let you know of the progress. time to head off to work.

heres the update: after i got fuel to the carb, it pop right off. and idles very smooth. so there is something wrong with the OEM carb. now i have to decide if i in stall a pull choke or try figuring out OEM carter a 2nd go with cleaning so i can make it to the car show next month.

I managed to adapt the factory choke to my Edelbrock 800 carb on my GTX by using pieces off of an AVS, but it was not a direct swap. I had to just screw the link to the choke shaft with a toothed lock washer and fiddle with it awhile to get it coordinated and working. If you are going to keep the Edelbrock carb on it, I would suggest getting one of their electric choke kits for simplicity.
