Thanks to a f#$%ing mouse, the front under structure of my power bulge hood for my Bee is in need of some serious help. I started today plug welding and cutting out damaged steel. Seems as though a good share of my restos have been previously owned by VERNIN.I have a very nice flat hood but refuse to cut it for this repair! :angry1:

Nice work Spauldo, wouldn't it be nice to have a completely rustfree pitchfork hood? Oh that's right, you DO!

Is this the rust free hood you just bought? I would have some choice words for the seller. Looks like a great job on the repair though.

Spauldo, If you have rot in the substructure, you need to be looking at the bottom side of the outer sheet metal also. I would highly recommend breaking all the spot welds around the perimeter and separating the outer and inner structure. There's only like two dozen spot welds and it pops right apart. That will allow you to sandblast the back side of the inner structure and put some good rust converter stuff on it also. It also allows you to sand the bottom side of the skin and get some good primer and rust converter coverage there.

I had a 69 dart power bulge hood that was tagged in the front right corner. I separated the skin and used a donor flat hood under frame to straighten it out. By the time I was done with a hammer and dolly on the front corner, primer was needed to fix the front corner. The hood looked as good under as it did on the outside, and I was sure it would never rust because it was covered everywhere with primer. It honestly only took about half an hour to break the welds and separate each hood.

I would like to find some place local where I could get this dipped but I may end up seperating as mentioned in the above thread. _______THIS IS NOT THE HOOD THAT I BOUGHT FROM DETROIT MATT!!!___________
