70rr GETTING HOT OR GUAGE?

im about to finnish putting together my 70 rr and today took her out for a spinafter driving about 7 or 8 miles and the temp guage went up to 230 then near 250 before i could get home. got home raised hood and it didnt seem all that hot .but i put a fan on it and would turn the key on every few minutes to check the temp guage,i noticed when i turned the key on and engine not running,that my oil pressure guage started rising. what could this be? if coolant temp reaches 250 should i see some symptons.if it is really hot,should i put new stat in it ? if so what temp thermostat should i use.any help appreciated.

Sir, get a laser thermo on the water pump housing, that would get you a good reading and have a look at the normal hose bulging ext......score a 13lbs Stant radiator cap and new thermostat. Take the old one out and boil it to see if it's opening
