71 Charger - 36 Months into a project

I have been an active reader of the various posts for years, but finally took the time to join. I want to thank everyone for their willingness to post information about their cars - it is a great help.

My son (when he was 14) saved his money and purchased this 1971 Charger for $1,400. I told him it would be a long project, but he said "I don't care. I love this car." Well here is what he started with in April 2009 and 36 months later it is now running on the road.

I joke with everyone we talk to about this project - It was like buying a jig saw puzzle with no idea what the "big picture" looks like. We purchased someone else’s project that they got tired of - a shell and 9 boxes of UNMARKED parts. Four coffee cans of bolts and nuts - YIKES.

I will post more about this project later, but here is what he started with 3 years ago.

Yery cool sounds like my son he wanted an older car so we could fix it up and he could join me at the shows,he bought a 73 charger basket case after the P.O. lost intrest he paid around the same amount but we did not get any nuts and bolts three trucks and two trailers to get it home. Next month will be a year and still a ways to go.

This is where we are now,sheet metal work done [i think] rough body work done,engine mockup done,engine bay strip and prime next.

I bought someone elses project last year and I know how you feel - 8 boxes of "stuff" all jammed together. like the choice of engine color - not too many stray away from the original colors...:headbang:

Thanks, but that was the choice of the previous owner it won't stay that color when it's done.
