'71 road runner Clutch Fork Adjuster Rod - Did A Nut Fall Off/Missing Or Supposed to be this way??

I just noticed this and can't tell from the service manual pics - is there supposed to be a nut on the thread as seen in the below pics?

No, there is no nut. It is always under pressure from the clutch fork pushing forward.

Here's mine (it was unadjusted at this point in the build though, and no clip yet on the front of the rod, but you get the idea)

No, there is not supposed to be a nut on the rearward side.. BUT... your return spring is missing!!!
 
'Damn! I was hoodwinked!! The more time I spend under this car instead of in it the more Mickey Mouse stuff I find - owned it > 5 years... Thanks! Even without the spring it's a workout to operate the clutch on this ole bird lol!
 
If you're seriously going to own and work on an old car, ANY old car, invest in a Factory Service Manual.
Why would anyone not? They're out there in both original and reprint condition and are reasonable to purchase.
If anything else, at least refer to the free versions online like:
Service Manuals – MyMopar
Most, if not all, questions are answered on servicing these critters in those...

The spring that's missing actually is the adjustment that keeps your throwout bearing off the fingers of the clutch. From the looks of things, the whole system is due for parts and service.
