The manual says 4.5 pints to fill an 8 1/4" differential after draining. My rudimentary calculations say that equals a quart plus 1 pint. I just dumped two full quarts in and its still a good half-inch below the fill hole. Top it off til it drools out of the filler-hole, or trust the manual? My gut says top it off. I always have in the past (topped it off) when a service manual wasn't available and have never encountered any trouble. No such thing as too much lube...right?
