I bought some heads that have had some portwork, then had a shop put my MP springs on them good for .600. I got the comp cams 545 cam and rebuilt the speed demon 850 The thing ran shitty and after driving it for about a hundred miles I opened it up, reved up slow, then all the sudden bent six pushrods. I'm wondering if these heads were decked alot and valves hit pistons. I don't have it apart yet, but where can I measure to see how much was taken off the heads? thanks

Do the pistons have valve reliefs cut in them?

Did you measure for valve to piston clearance and push rod length or just stick everything together? It doesn't really matter if they have been decked but you have to measure clearances....

Or the springs went solid. Hydraulic lifters?

'906 heads won't take .545" lift unless the guides are shortened. check your retainer to seal clearance and rocker ratio.

If your intake manifold bolted on okay then I wouldn't suspect excessive decking.
