I had the transmission pump on my A727 TF rebuilt (professionally) with new seal, bushing, etc., It slipped over the input shaft easily enough and bottomed out enough to get the six screws started (seemingly so far so good). However, after I began to torque them down (x pattern), I heard a "pop!" Hmmm... I started tightening the screws a little more, and again, a "pop!". I stopped tightening the bolts. I never reached the torque spec's (175inlb) and didn't dare tighten the bolts any further until I checked with you fine folks. I tried to spin the input shaft and stator by hand and it's a no go, and there's no endplay. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but it feels like something is jammed. Is this normal? I haven't tried to spin it with the TC installed, should I? BTW, the engine is removed so I'm working on the transmission pump via the engine bay. The transmission is in neutral if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any help.

You had the entire front pump out with the trans in the car? If so one or both clutch packs has come off the clutch disc and that’s your bind up,

Best scenario is the Trans needs to stand on end to install the front pump in the case.

It can be done with trans laying flat by and expert trans guy that knows what to look for but not a novice.

if you had tighten the intermediate band the forward and direct drums would have been held in place but as said you may have bent the clutch teeth. you will need to remove the trans and check both. get the factory service manual.

Thank you for the reply's! I'm going to have to pull the transmission now. Should have done that in the first place. I figured with the engine out, and full access to the pump, I had hoped to save myself some time. But noooo, thought I was home free when the pump slid on easily right to the outer rubber seal, and it was then just torquing it down. Lesson learned...:BangHead:
