A833 transmission fluid to use

I honestly have no idea why a gear box would use ATF.
My understanding is that ATF has friction characteristics. That be different according to the kind it is.
I don't want friction in my gear box.
But now that you mention it, I think I had a 79 Civic that used ATF in the gear box.
I think.
The friction deal is for the syncros which have to match the speed of the gears up as a shift is made. If they cant do that (slipping) you have a missed shift.

I think my syncros are worn on the inside. They look real good on the teeth. They aren't doing their job real good. I am using the gear lube that Brewers recommend, but might ATF create a little more friction on the synchros?..........................MO

My info says dont do it. The ATF that is.
