Alternator isn't charging or supplying power to the engine.

Okay, so I've narrowed it down to the fact that it's 2 different problems. I'm not finding where the blue wire off the alt is hooked up to the car. I'm pretty sure I've got a problem between the alt and the ammeter since the ammeter shows a draw whenever I turn on something. Any ideas/help?

I forgot to mention the alt is brand new...

Is this for your RR shown in your avatar? If so, not sure of the year, but on 73 there are two colored wires from the alternator, both are field wires, and both go to the voltage regulator. The dark blue wire also junctions in the harness and connects to the ballast resistor (side with the jumper) as well.

Also, just because the alternator is new doesn't mean it's not faulty or has failed. I got a remanufactured one for my car, it didn't last 10 miles and failed, or was not properly rebuilt from the get go. I suggest before you do anything, take it in and have it tested.

Yeah it's a 74 instead of a 73. By looking at the wiring diagram, I need a Dark Blue wire and a Dark Green wire on top of the black wire that goes to the ammeter/battery. I just found that the ammeter was hooked up backwards so I'm going to assume that it's now charging the battery as the gauge is now reading on the charge side when I do an amperage pull. As far as the missing blue wire, does that splice into the wire going to the Ign module or is it spliced in some where else? Or do I have the wrong theory on how this is all hooked up? Either way I'm gonna yank the engine harness back out and see where I'm missing the Dk Blue wire to the alt connection.

Also, how big of a Fuseable link should I use on the red wire coming from the ammeter to the starter relay? the previous owner put a chincy 16ga wire with a 25amp fuse in it where the old buss fuse went. To put everything into perspective on what I'm working with here, that wire is about the 10th one that he just had twisted together in the engine bay, no seal, not even a crimp connector. I'm crimping for now until I gut all the electrical to rebuild it and do it right.

Got it all figured out! Kinda helps if the regulator is wired in right. The alternator is charging very well. After I install the new fuel tank and take it on a few bug finding drives around time, I'm taking her home for summer break.
