That's sound advice. A breakdown in the middle of nowhere can cost you more in the long run than having it shipped.

Ship it. I had a car shipped about the same distance almost a year ago. The price was $1300-1400. How old are you and how much adventure do you want? Consider the gasoline cost, airplane flight cost(?), motel room cost, and your time. If everything goes perfect, you might save a couple of bucks. Remember that the car will always have more problems than the seller said. And as many others have said, the weather is pretty rough right now.

What ever you decide, good luck.

This is one of the reasons that I want to leave THIS car ratty for awhile...

I want to take it on some epic drives that may include breakdowns....without worrying about scratched paint.

          Oy.
Ok, so some punctuation, complete sentences and use of paragraphs would have made that
a whole lot more readable, I agree.
Me, I just skipped it, moreso because my eyes have a hard time with gigantic bundles of words like that
          anymore.

What you're seeing is the factory color of FK5 Burnt Orange peeking through the primer and Bondo. The outer body only has a tiny spot of actual rust through at the RH lower quarter. The car is solid, man!

What a great story and experience! Your car's rear seats fold down so you could camp out back there to save $$ on motel rooms!

Yep i'm crazy! After a couple months of waiting for the weather to get better i'm officially headed to Kentucky next week and i'm going to drive her (69 Satellite Hardtop) back! It's a matter of having more time than money at the moment. I'm hoping for no major breakdowns. I know $2000 isn't a lot for some people but that's about the best rate i could find for shipping up to my remote part of Oregon. Sent a bunch of spare parts like hoses, belts, wheel bearings, spare alternator, filters, etc down to where the car is stored. Gonna fly down for $175, buy a cooler full of food at Wally World and then drive an hour to the car. Probably spend a few hours going over the car checking fluids, brakes, etc and then hit the road. I'll be driving all day and sleeping in the backseat at night. Map says it's about 2100 miles. I'm guessing it's going to take me at least 3 days depending on the route. Thinking of going up through Missouri, over to Nebraska, through the bottom of Wyoming to Salt Lake and continue heading west on i-84 which i'm familiar with. Hopefully the weather will be good and i won't have to head south. Any last minute advice?

Enjoy the drive, take an extra day or two just cause adventures should be fun not a forced pace...Stop for cool scenic pictures of the car with sights along the way... Just cause your doing it on the cheap doesn't mean you can't slow down & enjoy it...

If I was retired I would volunteer to go with you and we could do 24 hour drives. Best of luck and write when you can.

If you have car trouble in western Missouri, get tired of sleeping in the back seat or just want a hot home cooked meal send me a PM. I am just 11 miles off of I-70. I would think there would be others along the way. Depending where in Kentucky this would make a good first night stop.

IMO an opportunity to grab a shower along the way would make the drive much easier... Oh, and the social aspect is good too...

I suspect there are other members along your route hopefully they will chime in...
