Did you know a guy named Don Torkelson? He was a friend of mine’s father. He was an engineer I believe. He had a wicked little Rambler American if I recall correctly. White with a black vinyl top. That was the first fast car I ever rode in, it was about 1969/70. Not the car, the year I rode in it.Great seeing all those AMC Javelin and AMX cars! I stated my career at AMC in 1972 and worked on the 70 type AMX vehicles they were a very nice car. We had an AMX 401 cu. in. 4spd lab car also a Rebel machine lab car and a scrambler they kept around for rear axle testing. We could buy engine trans assemblies that were used for part mockups and some cold crank testing for100 dollars that was a perk for working there. Oh and you could bring your AMC vehicle inside after work hours and use the facility to repair your car.

Name sounds familiar. When I first started working there I worked in the Engine Electrical Lab on Ignition systems I did a lot of custom distributor curves for race vehicles the company sponsored. I later became a Senior manager at AMC and Chrysler when Chrysler bought us out.Did you know a guy named Don Torkelson? He was a friend of mine’s father. He was an engineer I believe. I came very close to being an AMC guy.
More of a Rebel/Marlin guy though.
Nice history! Did you work on the Group 19 parts? It's nice to see all the AMC vehicles out there! I started my career at AMC and work at the Engineering office in Detroit in 1971. We had a Machine and an AMX for lab cars and the fuel and lube lab had a scrambler that we had access to. They were great vehicles and could hold there own on the street! We had engines built for performance testing that were pretty hot especially the 390 and 401 packages. The 304 V8 was a good small block engine that performed well also!
I worked in Engine electrical, ignition, charging and starting.Nice history! Did you work on the Group 19 parts?
