74RR bulge hood. Getting ready to rebuild the 440. Gonna use a 440 source stroker kit and probably trick flow 240s or 270s. Looking to make 600-700 HP/TQ. Pump gas 93 compression around 10:1. I would like to keep my dual snorkel air cleaner. I recently swapped out the Torker 2 for a 71 Mopar oem manifold to allow the dual snorkel air cleaner to fit.

My question is should I keep this manifold, knowing I might lose a little HP/TQ or should I switch to something that flows better and if so what intake will flow better than the stock one from 71 and still allow me to use my dual snorkel air cleaner. One of the magazines did a test on the different manifolds including the 71 OEM. I was looking for the article but can’t find it with the dyno numbers. The 71 surprisingly held its own.

Cant fit at least an Edy performer? Me thinks that iron is gonna be a choke. How abot the Weiand 2-plane or possibly Holley street dominator?
Maybe the stock air-cleaner housing could be modified as in like a drop base?

Tried that. Didn’t work.

Pretty sure the performer is along the same lines as the stock. I wish I could find that article with the dyno numbers. I need some people with 73/74 bulge hoods to chime in here that have experience in what works with the stock 3” air cleaner.

The unmodified factory intake will not be a small reduction in power. I think it will be a lot.

Next step would be a CH4B with the center divider milled out. I think your air cleaner will still fit.

Next up is the Holley SD. Very little compromise in power. It is taller and might not be that much different than the Torker ll. Others might know.

To have your cake and eat it too might require you to modify the air cleaner, which is likely more difficult than the 1960s air cleaners that Im use to.

Looking at this build and swapping their manifold for my OEM

Engine Package #5:

496 - 512 Cubic Inches, approximately 700 horsepower

Trick Flow 240 Heads, Full Roller Valvetrain

Just $12,675!!

This is similar to our engine package 4, except we go to TRICK FLOW 240 Heads. All the other benefits of Package 4 remain, such as FULL ROLLER on the valvetrain and bolt kits upgraded to our Performance 12 points instead of regular Grade 8. Accessories like the air cleaner, water neck, valley pan holddown bars and distributor clamp are now all billet aluminum instead of reproduction steel. Likewise, the valve covers get upgraded from regular chrome steel to fabbed aluminum. Items like the timing chain and distributor are all our top shelf, highest quality choices for this build.

We can supply this kit for use with your 383, 400 or 440 engine block. It includes one of our stroker kits in the 496-512 cubic inch range, and Trick Flow's 240 aluminum cylinder heads, It's designed for those Friday night cruisers, and it's a very street-able combination. Even though the cam is .600" lift, it's still only 251/257 duration at .050" meaning it will be docile and responsive when you want it to be, but (at about 700 horsepower,) when you get on it, it will put you back in the seat hard and beat the vast majority of the other cars out on the road. Frequent trips to the drag strip will feel right at home with this one. Running power brakes and power steering is no problem. Because it's full roller, the valvetrain is definitely going to be noisier than a stock type flat tappet setup. And with that distinct "roller" sound, people will definitely know you have something under the hood.

You supply a machined engine block, (we'll match the stroker kit to the finished bore size of your block) and this kit includes everything else you need to assemble a 100% BRAND NEW, 100% complete engine, air cleaner & carb to oil pan, water pump to flexplate. We even include the fuel pump, starter and related hardware, and the cam assembly and break in lubes. And even engine paint, so you can totally complete the build. And of course you'll have to get exhaust components (manifolds or headers) to fit your application. And if you need engine mounts and brackets, head over to our engine mounts page and let us know when ordering that you want to add those on.

We even include the damper and flexplate. However, if you want it to be TOTALLY complete including all engine front end accessories (pulleys, belts, brackets, alternator, etc), just add our 200-1071 "Engine front end kit" (for cars WITHOUT power steering) or our 200-1072 "Engine front end kit" (for cars WITH power steering.) We don't include the engine fan and spacer, because this will depend on the type of radiator and fan shroud in the car. After installing the engine, you can measure the distance between the water pump pulley and radiator and get the correct fan and spacer for your application.

The oil pan supplied is our Hemi Reproduction pan, which works great for all 1966-72 B bodies and 70-74 E bodies. If you are using a different chassis, such as an A-body, Early (62-65) B body, or truck, we can replace the pan with the one you would need.

If you have any of these items already, you can delete them from the assembly, and it will reduce the cost by whatever the price of the deleted item is. You don't have to buy the whole package. We can also upgrade or substitute anything you want, as long as it's on our website. Just let us know when ordering. We're like Burger King. If they sold Big Block Mopar parts.

The manifold they offer is this

1765546449990.jpeg

Our new BLACK (painted) finish "raised dual plane" intake manifold is a cross between a single plain and a dual plane intake. It's very similar to the Edelbrock Performer RPM. While it is technically a dual plane (which is needed in order to keep the low end response and driveability required in a street driven car,) the carb height is also raised quite a bit, and the runners are straightened out and enlarged as much as possible. The result is a great "hybrid" manifold for those who still want neck-snapping response without giving up too much top end. On stock displacement engines, this manifold is rated as 1500-6500 RPM. In our 500-512 cubic inch stroker engines, it'll move the powerband down slightly to about 1000-6000. These are a great manifold to use with our Stealth aluminum cylinder heads on cars which will see some street use. This version fits "RB" (413/426/440) engines. We have another version for "B" engines listed below.

Height over stock intake:

CH4B - 0.4”
Performer - 0.5”
SD - 0.9”
Torker ll - 0.9”
RPM - 1.5”
440-2D - 1.5”

Looks like I did have Torker ll data.

Looks the CH4B and Performer might work. I say might. Because the Torker II with a 2” filter barely fit. The stock dual snorkel is 3”. The stock OEM gave me the 1” I needed. The difference in the CH4B and performer vs the Torker is ~0.5”. Somebody with a 73/74 bulge hood and stock 3” air cleaner please chime in.

Likely an Edelbrock RPM copy. Is there a name on it?
It’s 440 source

Can you post a picture of your intake?

I meant a picture of the air cleaner
