A guy call me today and offer me 3 complete old hemi's for $1400. 2 are the Dodge 241 and one Desoto 287. I don't know much about these engines other then they look cool in old t-buckets and ratrods. He said they were complete down the carbs and exhaust manifolds. He also had a complete 53 Ford flathead for $300 which I told him I would take. Anyone know the value of these engines?

There's a bunch of odd sized early Hemi's, I've never had any Dodge 241ci or Desoto 287ci Hemi's, but 3 complete engines, carb to pan & manifolds for $1400, to me seems relatively reasonable, do they turn over, what kind of condition are they ??... I've had only iron 354ci, 392ci, 426ci & Alum. Keith Black, JP1 or Milodon Racing Hemi's, I know even the 354's & 392's, they are far more expensive probably $1500 each easily for a decent re-buildable example... Some parts might be available, some of the odd sizes parts are tough to get or could be tough to get certain parts for uncommon lessor ran/known early Dodge & Desoto hemi's... you could try www.hothemiheads.com @ Hot Heads Research & Racing Inc., Early Chrysler Hemi home page there's also PAW www.pawinc.com @ Performance Automotive Warehouse, maybe www.speedwaymotors.com @ Speedway Motors might have some parts too, also try www.hotrodhotline.com @ Hot Rod Hot Line {I get there e-mail news letter}, maybe in their classifieds section, maybe there are some there you can compare pricing, it's a great site if your into Hot Rods & vintage parts &/or links to such things, may have some engine parts available too, not really sure on those displacement engines... good luck

I think I will keep one just to hang on a engine stand just to look at and sell the other two. The guy told me about 10 years ago he spotted the old dodges and desotos with hemi's at an old mans private junkyard collection. The old guy didn't want to sell the engines so he left his number if he decided to change his mind. Apparently the EPA came in and threaten to fine the old guy if you didn't get rid of the cars. He called the guy that offered them to me. He went down and pulled all three engines from their rusted hulls. He said they were stuck when he bought them but they are complete and have been in dry storage. Someone can always do a stock rebuilt and install one in a old roadster. Budnicks you have convinced me to go ahead and purchase them. I wanted the flathead to put on a engine stand just to look at.

Here's a link to the early hemi engine.

Out here they can be pretty popular and some will pay descent money for a guaranteed runner for the aforementioned rat rod. I also agree they (and flat heads) are cool to just have around the shop or your kitchen. Not long ago I had a running flat head in a 52 F3 (Sanford and Son) pickup.

I just remembered at a Bakersfiled meet a guy had a car trailer full of old hemis and he was asking no less than $1000.00 ea.

I like the 49-53 Ford flathead. The distributor position reminds me of a b-rb mopar

I would run anything except a sbc in a old ratrod. I also like the old buick nailhead engine. Great pics Budnick.

Let's just shake hands on that!!! I love seeing people step out of the box when deciding what engine to run in a hot rod. And if the owner is near by I thank him/her for NOT using a SBC. I almost want to put a 500 Cad in my jet boat just because you will never see it (has Olds 455 now and will bolt to my motor plate). Water logs will be a problem though. On the other hand it's gotten to the point you don't see the Olds 455 anymore. They are all being replaced with BBC.

There's one for sale around her for $1,200, but it's been for sale for over a year.

Be very careful ...as the Dodge engines are different from the Desoto. Above all, the Chrysler Fire-Power engines are different from both Dodge or Desoto. Parts will not, repeat NOT, interchange. The only way to go for any chance of parts is the Chrysler Fire-Power. Either the 331, 354 or 392.

yeah a good looken' flathead or early hemi in a rod & especially an old Ford I like allot better than the obligatory SBC...

Got to say i love your pic's of car pictures with this one! To answer ga66mopar question ( "Anyone have any idea what the old hemi's are worth.") I would love to have a few to find out! :) Good luck with it!!

I'm looking for a 315 or a 325 hemi 1956 to 1958 dodge truck motor. they are called super power giant or red ram hemi. they may be used in other cars.
